Many teachers make the common mistake of thinking that their class is the only one that exists in students' compacted schedule. 2 hours of homework per night for the class seems innocent, until you realize that the 4 other classes you're taking is also assigning 2 hours of homework per night. With that work load, it is no surprise to me that kids are dropping out and committing suicide. It is especially for student athletes who are trying to balance schoolwork and playing a collegiate level sport. Sports and exercise in general are absolutely essential in keeping a well balanced lifestyle. When I was growing up, I was involved in many different sports, including soccer, basketball, volleyball, track, tennis and swim. I truly believe that this helped me grow as a person by being a team player, managing my time effectively, and being disciplined. This article states that sports are essential in helping a person grow physically and mentally.
