I am very grateful that these types of platforms exist because in these times when we are being bombarded with a large amount of misinformation, fake news and other hoaxes that come and go through social networks and the Internet in general; we must have the skills and the eye to be able to know if there is something wrong with the information we are receiving. If we have not yet developed those capabilities, it is good to know that there are these types of platforms that say whether or not a news item or information is reliable.

This was a great introductory article for teaching news literacy. There is a video included from The New EdTech Classroom about how to best utilize Newsela in the classroom. I have used Newsela for several years mostly because of the awesome multilexile feature. If you have never used this site, this video is great for getting started. At the time of the video, it was free for everything but is now back to subscription status. There are, however, tons of free articles to use with more added daily.

Prepare your students for tomorrow's headlines with essential news and media literacy lessons, videos, printables, and more. From misinformation to the 24-hour news cycle (on TV and now on social media), students must learn to navigate a noisy, biased, and challenging world. But with the right support, they can learn to be critical and not cynical—to speak up, not sit back.

Social Media is an essential tool for learning, we as future teachers must deal with problems that involve this tool, for example, fake news are elemets that sorround social media, so our responsability is to help students to be critical about this phenomenom. In this article you can find a game, and a discussion activity to explore how deepfakes might impact elections.
