My son loves Prodigy. He has an account through school and after he finishes his homework he asks to get on prodigy. It is often difficult to find activities that are exciting and engaging for elementary children. These are some great ideas and resources for learning fractions.

Pizza Fractions is an application that students can use on the iPads to test themselves on their knowledge of fractions. It is related to the Mathematics Syllabus Outcome MA2-7NA represents, models and compares commonly used fractions and decimals. There is an adjustable level of difficulty so students' can do the level appropriate to their own knowledge, which allows for differentiation in the classroom. A competition can also be created for all students in the class as a score is given at the end. I would use this as an early finishers activity for students who have completed the set work on fractions. There will be fifteen iPads available to a class of thirty students so students may be required to work in pairs. I would use this as a conclusion to a lesson by testing students knowledge about what they have learnt in the body of the lesson. This activity also promotes collaboration as students can work in pairs and help each other if there is a question they can't answer. |
