A few weeks ago we were talking about school ‘accountability’ in one of my classes. I mentioned that I didn’t think that most schools were

If we raised the bar up to preparation for true life readiness, wouldn’t most schools do pretty poorly on the four shifts noted above? (and other fronts, like information literacy and global awareness) When do we as a society care about and have a sense of urgency about that?

5 Ways Teachers Can Encourage Deeper Learning With Personal Devices
Author: Jennifer Pierrat. taken from: Edsurge (technology in the school) August 7 - 2016 From my point of view, personal devices such cell phones, tablets, ipads, among others, can be a huge risk if we allow students to use them in the classroom. However, it is also true that we as teachers should try to find useful ways to incorporate these potential resources into our lessons if we want to increase learner involvement and motivation while at the same time improving time management, teacher-student interaction, meaningful learning and real-time provision of feedback. All these educational factors can be simultaneously addressed if teachers take some time to do a little research on the web to find out the countless activities that digital devices allow them to perform along with your students both in and outside the classroom.

Some relevant advice that I have stumbled upon. I have even experienced the negative side effects of some of these already, and will endeavor to modify my teaching practices to not include these in the future.

I think that this form of teaching can really benefit those who are learning. I like the fact that Drs. Monica Martinez and Dennis McGrath read “Deeper Learning: How Eight Innovative Public Schools Are Transforming Education in the 21st Century" and then came to their conclusions they did about learning. I do feel that their learning tips that they concluded from reading are very helpful to students everywhere. One that stuck out to me was connecting learning to real world experiences. This is something teachers should focus on while teaching because it gives students a better understanding of why they are learning what they are. I know it gives me a better understanding. |
