Agreed Brian it is honest advice, with some positive points to take away about the Teacher being the difference not just the technology.

If you're still unclear on SAMR, this article is for you. Easy to read, understand and apply the concepts.

This gave a clear and simple explanation of SAMR, which is highly useful for all teachers.

Thanks for sharing Grace. This is a great article for people struggling to understand the key purpose of the SAMR model. It really breaks down the model into easy to understand parts.

This article explains the requirement of students to be benefiting from the use of ICT and the need for good pedagogical practices within the classroom. Most importantly it explains the SAMR model and it uses within ICT as well as understanding the TPACK framework. I believe I have a greater understanding of both models now from reading this.

In this unit so far I have found that the SAMR model has really helped me when considering how effective a digital tool is. Making sure technology is not just replacing paper and pen learning but create opportunities previously thought to be inconceivable.

I like this article, because it addresses educators' attention to the inefficient use of technology in the classroom. This is a problem commonly seen in schools and the awareness of simply doing work on a computer or tapping a screen does not mean that learning is taking place.

That's great thank you so much for this one. I like the way the visual takes SAMR from a different angle and uses coffee. I actually worked as a barista for several years who would have though it would be possible to draw that experience into technology in the classroom. Have you considered tagging it coffee SAMR. Wait a sec. I just did.

This visual is what best helped me understand SAMR... and I don't even drink coffee.

I found this scoop very useful and interesting, after learning about the positive effects of technology in schools and the SAMR models for the last twelve weeks. I agree that technology is undoubtedly the way of the future, and that technology makes learning visible and the teacher makes learning meaningful. The part that was the most useful to me, was how the scoop defined the SAMR model of substitution, augmentation, modification and redefinition and then gave in-depth examples of how and why they are useful in class. I think that it is also extremely critical for teachers to understand that as stated in the scoop, that the greatest AI will never be a solution for education, and that it is purely a tool to use. I think using technology in my classes will play a big factor in how I will teacher my students for my upcoming practical lessons and for the future in general. As I am a strong believer in technology is the redefining way to teach and learn.

The opening sentence to the second paragraph highlights something that all pre-service teachers, like myself, must keep in mind, “As educators and curators of educational technology we know that technology is a tool that complements instruction.” Meaning that technology can impact the classroom in a meaningful way that fuels learning and the true innovators in the classroom that stoke that same fire are the teachers. The article provides thoughtful insights into Bloom’s taxonomy, Puentedura’s taxonomy and more importantly, SAMR models that help teachers reflect on how they’re using technology today. I like how the article pays more attention to the teachers point of view with technology, offering explanations and paradigms to the potential technology has in its ability to untether the physical boundaries of the classroom and take learners to “worlds beyond their imagination”. In conclusion, an informative article that helps define how each level of SAMR can help teachers dive deeper into making significant impacts within the classroom in relation to ICT usage.

I enjoy reading Matt Miller's insights and agree with his sentiment (and Glenda's) that solid content and pedagogy are the foundations on which we can add tech to transform learning. I also appreciate that there are times when augmentation and modification of a task will meet my learning objectives, I won't have to climb to the top of the mountain to succeed. I like Matt's wheel analogy regarding the areas TPACK, they need to balanced so the wheel spins smoothly.

An interesting insight of which I wholeheartedly agree! The level of technology integration is dependent on the lesson at hand - classroom tech use does not always have to be at the modification and redefinition levels

The SAMR Model is so interesting and helpful when wanting to implement a digital element into an activity or piece of assessment. While it can be difficult to get everything to that redefinition level, even substitution can make your life easier, and an activity more engaging for students.
