"Pokémon Go!" When I saw this headline, my interest was piqued. What other apps use augmented reality as seamlessly as Pokémon Go? Turns out, quite a few. Most are game-related but others involve shopping. All of them involve socially interacting with others. Social interaction is exactly what the world needs more of -- interaction with people. After COVID, we are still learning how to socialize with others in a less fearful stance, and games like these can help to calm our anxieties about hanging out with people.

Over the years, many of us have personally experienced the growth of technology in today’s classrooms. Instead of taking notes, students are now occupied by surfing the Internet, scrolling through Facebook, and messaging their friends on their smart phones, tablets, and laptops. Instead of focusing on the instruction, teachers are constantly required to interrupt class in order to remind those students again and again, that class time is for learning, not texting. However, as today’s students are using more technological devices, it is imperative that teachers have access to the resources to keep pace with the growing tech culture. Via paul rayner

At last count, there were over 80,000 educational apps available to teachers. There are apps for everything: literacy, STEM, productivity, audiovisual, etc. There are apps which improve accessibility for students with different learning challenges, i.e. text to voice, voice to text, etc. While many of these may be a dream come true for educators, the dizzying array of choices is also a nightmare. Although the technological era gives us a set of tools that can help us in our learning process, there are several things that students and teachers at the school need to improve. This author explains that if we are going to start using electronic devices at school, we need to implement some apps that help us to be organized. Teachers and students have to understand that electronic devices are not only learning tools, but also part of the learning process itself. The apps from this article help learners and instructors to organize their schedule, assignments, upload and save learning material, etc.

The Kingston Grammar School began an iPad Trial in Sept. 2012. Their ICT Director, Matt Brittland, designed evaluations of the process and has just published a detailed report. Links to the following items are available from this website. * iPad Report (2012-2013 - full report) * iPad Trial: Launching to Heads of Departments (presentation) * iPad Launch to all Staff - Inset: How it Worked (Resources Included) * How to Evaluate iPad Use in Education * Lots of iPad Video Tutorials The final report provides graphs of evaluations from teachers and students.
