Luís Martins to Defend PhD Thesis in Biotechnology and Biosciences | iBB | Scoop.it

Luís Miguel Candeias Martins will be defending his PhD thesis in Biotechnology and Biosciences at Instituto Superior Técnico, Tuesday the 18th of May 2021, at 14:00 (https://videoconf-colibri.zoom.us/j/82200706553). During the last years, and under the supervision of Prof. Isabel Sá-Correia from BSRG-iBB, Luís studied the genetic tolerance determinants for multiple stresses in S. cerevisiae and the potential of oleaginous red yeasts for the efficient carbon substrates conversion present in pectin-rich hydrolysates. The title of his thesis is “Valorisation of pectin-rich agro-industrial residues by yeasts: Potential and Challenges”.

Luís Miguel Martins Delivers Oral Presentation at Microbiotec’19 | iBB | Scoop.it

Luís Miguel Martins, PhD student from the AEM doctoral programme in Applied and Environmental Microbiology, at iBB-BSRG, presented his work during the symposium on “Bioeconomy and Sustainable Development“   of the Congress of Microbiology and Biotechnology 2019 (Microbiotec’19), which was held between the 5th and 7th of December 2019 in Coimbra, Portugal. The presentation was entitled “Isolation and potential of non-conventional yeasts for the production of added-value compounds from pectin-rich residues, in particular sugar beet pulp”. This work was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Isabel Sá-Correia (iBB-BSRG) in the framework of ERANET-Industrial Biotechnology project ERA-IB-2/0003/2015 “Engineering of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae for bioconversion of pectin-containing agro-industrial side-streams”.
