Special Issue on "…the Beauty of the BYeast" for FEMS Yeast Research

Special Issue on "…the Beauty of the BYeast" for FEMS Yeast Research | iBB | Scoop.it

Together with Carol Munro, Aberdeen Fungal Group, Institute of Medical Sciences, University of Aberdeen, UK, Miguel Cacho Teixeira, BSRG-iBB, organized a special issue for FEMS Yeast Research, whose Editorial cover paper has just been released. Despite decades of research on important human fungal pathogens, a lot still needs to be done to uncover the elegant mechanisms used by different species to thrive in the human host and to convert that knowledge into improved clinical therapy. In this special issue, entitled “Yeast pathogenesis and drug resistance: the beauty of the BYeast”, fascinating views on the cross-talk between drug resistance acquisition, virulence, fitness, host interactions, and pathogenesis are put forward, highlighting the importance of the diversity of genome-scale approaches to unravel their intricate nature.

Computational Models for Designing Stem Cell Manufacturing Processes

Computational Models for Designing Stem Cell Manufacturing Processes | iBB | Scoop.it

Current stem cell process design is guided by the envisioned demand and compliance with regulatory requirements. However, design of manufacturing processes streamlining for cost efficiency, while preparing a new therapy for approval and reimbursement, is often neglected. In an editorial of RegMedNet, a networking site that unites all members of the diverse regenerative medicine community, the use of computational models for designing stem cell manufacturing processes is discussed by SCERG-iBB researchers led by Joaquim Cabral in collaboration with Stan Finkelstein from MIT.
