FCT has opened a call for scientific research and technological development (SR&TD) project grants to support innovative ideas in all research domains that may make significant contributions to the advancement of scientific knowledge. "This call aims to support early-stage joint science and technology research for radically new future technological possibilities. The call is entirely non-prescriptive with regards to the nature or purpose of the technologies that are envisaged and thus targets mainly the unexpected. A bottom-up selection process will build up a diverse portfolio of projects. In order to identify and seize opportunities of long-term benefit for citizens, the economy and society, the early detection of promising new areas, developments and trends, wherever they come from, will be essential."

"The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is launching a new Grand Challenge: New Interventions for Global Health. This challenge focuses on innovative concepts for vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics with the potential to be translated into safe, effective, affordable, and widely utilized interventions to protect against the acquisition, progression, or transmission of infectious diseases, or to provide a cure for infectious diseases, in resource‐limited settings."

"01.07.14 - The 2014 call for PhD Studentships, PhD Studentships in Industry and Post-doctoral Fellowships will open at the end of July. The call for applications will run to the end of September 2014."

"ERA-IB-2 together with EuroTransBio (ETB) launched the 6thtransnational call for research projects on the 1st of December 2014 under the topic: Industrial Biotechnology for Europe - an Integrated Approach. Its main goal is to encourage academics and industrial researchers with expertise in Industrial Biotechnology to work together across the whole value chain. By cofounding this call, the organizations will contribute to less fragmentation of resources and an increase in transnational networking."
