Travel and Shopping in Le Marche | Italy’s marche region is for shoes and fashion | Good Things From Italy - Le Cose Buone d'Italia | Scoop.it

Italy brings us many amazing fashion brands, and there is one region in particular where numerous shoe makers come from – coastal Marche region – and more specifically Fermo and Macerata districts, not far from Rome. The most famous women’s luxury brand from Marche would probably be the jewel-incrusted Loriblu shoes, which would even match Cinderella’s glass slippers! Also the company making those famous Tod’s loafers and Hogan shoes is located in the Marche region. [...]

Santoni: The holy grail for shoe freaks

Santoni: The holy grail for shoe freaks | Good Things From Italy - Le Cose Buone d'Italia | Scoop.it

In the modern world, not everything faster is better. Sure, we like our download speeds and our pizza delivery to be lightning quick; but not necessarily our fashion.

Santoni, a leading luxury shoe brand from Italy, lives by a different creed, and a different speed: Fatto a Mano su Misura, which means “handmade bespoke,” refers to a special level of service and attention to detail. And it’s something that makes their brand a distinctive addition to Shangri-La Plaza’s East Wing.

Launching the brand last week, Asia area manager Andrea Casavecchia was in town to show us how Italian pride in artisan craftsmanship is what makes Santoni special.

To illustrate the point, he brought along shoe artisan Francesco De Santis from the company’s factory and birthplace in Macerata, a small, medieval-era town in central Italy. De Santis demonstrated the first steps of fatto a mano su misura, which is to trace and measure the clients’ feet on a sheet of paper. From the drawings and measurements, there is the meticulous creation of a wooden last, used as the model to construct the bespoke shoe, or the “build.” That involves hand tooling, hand stitching, and even hand painting by a team of artisans, some of them art students. The result? A very unique pair of shoes. The timetable? From drawing board to your feet: up to three months. [...]

A beautiful style secret | the buried shoes of Silvano Lattanzi

A beautiful style secret | the buried shoes of Silvano Lattanzi | Good Things From Italy - Le Cose Buone d'Italia | Scoop.it

In 1837, the greatest Italian poet of the time Giacomo Leopardi died due to an asthma attack at the age of 38, in a small apartment in Napoli. Legend has it that when his grave was dug up, the only item that helped identify his body was a pair of ankle boots found inside the coffin. They were the same size and style as seen in the poets’ portraits. The buried boots survived, perfectly preserved after 63 years!

And so, inspired by this story, Silvano Lattanzi, a shoe maker known for his unconventional materials and concepts, decided to bury different pairs of shoes in a garden for a period of four years in order for them to achieve the same kind of preservation and the antique feel. And following this procedure of naturally ageing shoes below the earth, the buried shoes have come back to life!

The new process involves the footwear being placed on a carpet of straw for protection and covered with dried flowers and other perfumed herbage. The leather shoes result in tones and shades so unique and remarkable, it is impossible to reproduce.[...]

Lanciotti de' Verzi: I Love Flat Shoes

Lanciotti de' Verzi: I Love Flat Shoes | Good Things From Italy - Le Cose Buone d'Italia | Scoop.it

The new Spring/Summer Fashion 2013 trends for women have no half way measures, it's either very high heeled pumps, open toe shoes, wedges or totally flat shoes that are back in fashion as elegant moccasins and lace ups or casual flat pumps right through to sneakers

Of course the of all the varieties among flat shoes, the version to reign supremely is the flat pump which is certainly one of the "musts" for this season in a gamut of pastel colours that aspire to soft hues from powdery pink to oranges with woven varieties extremely soft to wear. For those who prefer brighter colours, this year's trend is towards fluorescent colours that run from bright yellow to crimson. Alternatives inkeeping with the theme permit eveyrone to individualize their own "look" without being forced to wear high heels but by wearing highly refined laceups or delicate moccasins which have come boldly back into fashion in the last fashion parades by Armani, Gucci, from Stella mcCartney to Prada.

A number of world famous stylists such as Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin have brought the androgynous look back onto the catwalk, by retouching laceups these flat styles can be pleasantly matched with casual tight jeans or leggings under oversized jumpers or with jersey or stretch trousers, but they are also suitable for ankle length wider legged trousers or can also be matched with flared high-waisted skirts or short dresses in full MadMen style. For a more professional look these laceups are perfect with flared trousers or fitted straight skirts.

Schiaparelli Couture Fall 2014

Schiaparelli Couture Fall 2014 | Good Things From Italy - Le Cose Buone d'Italia | Scoop.it
With Christian Lacroix and John Galliano no longer plying the couture craft, Marco Zanini has stepped in to offer flamboyance and eccentricity.

Via Mariano Pallottini
Indranil Bhattacharya's curator insight, July 19, 2014 11:55 AM

Marco Zanini was 15 years old when he first read Elsa Schiaparelli's Shocking Life. A future in haute couture instantly beckoned. "She was punk before punk, Pop before Pop," he rhapsodized at a preview the other day. Now that he bears her mantle, his reaction was predictable: "Unbelievable!" And the stellar turnout today for his debut at Schiaparelli—Jean Paul Gaultier, Pierpaolo Piccioli, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Elle Macpherson, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Ines de la Fressange, Jean-Paul Goude—suggested his enthusiasm had won over his peers.

It's been sixty years since Elsa herself last showed couture (in the interim, she has shuffled off this mortal coil), but Zanini ensured that it might as well have been yesterday with the lineup he presented. He captured Schiaparelli's sense of color and decoration and—perhaps most important—her sense of humor, and all without resorting to lobsters or shoe hats or anything overtly Surrealist. And even if today the hair, the makeup, and Stephen Jones' headpieces had a touch of the crazies, they all added to a feeling that Zanini had made himself some twenty-first-century Merveilleuses.

"She was a delicate paradox, the epitome of elegance with a certain taste that wasn't very elegant," Zanini said of Schiap. "She was the first to mix high and low." Dressing both the Duchess of Windsor and Mae West, in other words. In his collection, Zanini honored that instinct with outfits as supremely elegant as a silk chiffon skirt and matching blouse (it took twenty people three weeks to achieve the bouilloné effect on the skirt), and as supremely showgirl as a paillette-encrusted brocade bodysuit under a sheer silk chiffon robe de chambre. He insisted he had to restrain himself: "This is the first one; I didn't want to get drunk with it." He was also acutely aware of the looming trap of camp (those damn lobsters!). Nevertheless, Zanini chocked his nineteen looks with vivid prints, sweeping drama, gorgeous embroidery, and a spectacular party trick, in jackets that reversed from sober black mohair to a froth of white ruffle or a feast of feathers. Gripoix complemented the collection with jewelry as special as a Venus flytrap ring and a vine of glittering ivy that crawled up Kirsten Owen's arm.

Santoni, top italian brand, now in the Philippines

Santoni, top italian brand, now in the Philippines | Good Things From Italy - Le Cose Buone d'Italia | Scoop.it

A good pair doesn't only mean quality leather, it also means excellent craftsmanship and comfort...something Santoni has been specializing in for years and now it's finally in the Philippines.
To celebrate the opening of their first ever store, the Lucerne group and Santoni flew in Italian master artisan, Francesco De Santis to showcase the art of shoemaking for the ultimate "Santoni Experience" - which is to always be of service to their client and their wishes.
Each bespoke shoe is meticulously measured and their clients get to choose everything...from the shape, the hides used...every little detail. It takes over 200 steps and 60 days to finish a single shoe. The result is a one-of-a-kind perfect pair.
For Santoni's Spring/Summer 2014 Collection, inspiration was brought about by the gestures of the new contemporary man. Old materials and models were reinvented and personalized in a wide variety of colors, patinas and styles.
The women on the other hand, are treated to a set that depicts a flawless combination of the urban and the natural.
Santoni collections are available at the 2nd level East Wing of Shangrila Plaza Manila. [...]

The Land of Artisans and Christmas Shopping in Marche

The Land of Artisans and Christmas Shopping in Marche | Good Things From Italy - Le Cose Buone d'Italia | Scoop.it

Le Marche, (pronounced Mar-kay) is an undiscovered gem. Situated in central Italy, between the Adriatic sea and the Apennine mountains, it’s the region I call home. We are trying to keep it quiet really, but I just have to share the secret of wonderful shopping here.
Marche is known for it’s leather craftmanship and artisans, producing 90% of all Italy’s shoes. Many are hidden in the hill-top towns (in the centre of Marche near Fermo), family run businesses quietly making beautiful leather items for the big designer names.
Best known of course is Tod’s, whose famous moccasins/driving shoes and handbags are always favourites with celebrities and royalty. The classic “D” bag, named after Princess Diana, is now also being carried by Kate Middleton. Why pay high-street prices when you can come to the factory store and enjoy soaking up the atmosphere of Italy at the same time! You can find the “D‘ handbag in many different colours in their stylish store at 495 euros, reduced from 890 euros. [...]

Tombolini Autumn Winter 2013/2014

Tombolini goes over the pure italian style to delight temporary trends without betraying the values that made its name so important: careful selection of the best textiles, excellent packaging, and respect of the artisan know-how. The original passion of the founders and that aspires to perfection, aligns to the experiments of the technologic avant-garde.
The unmistakeable softness of the Zero Gravity line revisits the sartorial notion with the lightness of a caress. Just 300 grams weight for outfits that dress the body with an inimitable mixture of the purest wool, cashmere, silk, fresh linen and bright cottons. [...]

It can easily be put close to the Business Blazer silhouette, indispensable ally of the travelling businessman. A blazer cut with the special textile Threehundredandsixtydegrees that boasts different excellent virtues as water repellence, anti-bacterial and perspiring properties. [...]

Refinement also rhymes with the informal spirit of the line. Such is the case with the Dream line, in cotton and wool garment dyed, the very quintessence of versatility from morning to night. The precise cut line gets smoothed by the multicolor palette, and the rigorous volumes look dissolved into a new manly harmonic rule.

The Flying line has a more agile spirit embodied by the jersey matchless fit, with its deconstructed coat fitting as a second skin. Here the iconic Tombolini blue hue rules.
At top of the range you find the T900 line, with a stronger classic spirit favoring a more sustained shoulders look besides precious and shining materials: this for a total experience of male luxury as for the unmistakable Tombolini taste. [...]
