You know when I started out with GetAtMe, it was initially a project I was doing to partner up with a friend. As in some partnerships, I wound up doing all the work and the partner attempted to wait for the money to come in (they will be waiting…). So when I decided to do GetAtMe on my own, it sort of had an identity crisis. I knew I wanted it to be about the music industry (but I didn’t want a TEA tabloid, even though that’s where the money was…). So what I came to terms with was a hiphop version of DOWNBEAT magazine for true music lover and djs. At one point I felt like we was getting to industry (which is where the money is but it wasn’t what I wanted to do…) I wanted a blogzine that was for the fans, djs and now I will be bringing in and introducing new acts, but there was an issue (honestly most new acts are really not that trend worthy and it takes a momentum for folks to engage new artist online, talent don’t drive trends and views. So now I had to figure out a way to make new acts interesting other than (“I want folks to hear my music… I want folks to buy your music and that might be the difference…)
Over the years I’ve heard many a club jock and area djs complain that artist really don’t look out financially, so that’s when I decided that my mission was to make the DjSingleMixxx the new 401k for Dj’s. Look if you as a dj is so accomplished at breaking music then just sell and break your own music (why am I hearing “we shall overcome” in the back of my head…”) So that’s how I came up with BeatMakanixxx to do djsinglemixes for new and deserving artist (if you’re that hot then let’s see…) and that how we got to the “WillMixForFoodMixtape”
I had 3 great Dj friends die (actually a lot more than that) and when they passed, for some of them money had to be raised for their funeral. So my thought is this, if you’re so hot and powerful then break you own music and show the world (Jay Hillfigerr did that with JujuOnTheBeat and at 15 he right now is the music exec of the year because he’s already did over 200,000 downloads in the last 2 months (some of the folks at the labels would salivate for those numbers as Atlantic was doing when they hurried up and signed these kids, Jay Hilfigerr And Zayvion McCall to a music deal. So know I’m sending out to all the djs to make their own single and break themselves so that you too can have in a Pay Pal account with money in it every morning when you wake up. It’s not that hard to upload an mp3. I see people do it everyday. Remember, “there’s nothing wrong with the record business that a good record can’t cure…”
