From the first time I viewed a Vanjess cover, I was like wow (it was a JCole cover and here’s the impact of their talent and performance., I remember Vanjess but the song slips my mind but it was a great performance…). Vanjess is positive. Vanjess is attractive. Vanjess is talented. Vanjess has a huge online following and loyal fans. So why hasn’t Vanjess been signed and where is that elusive hit hiding (These ladies and Dj Mustard are just waiting to happen..)?
It’s hard for me to imagine that folks who are viewing youtube covers are unaware of Vanjess (that’s like saying you don’t know Jessica Sanchez. #ThatsAnotherOnefolks). These ladies have amassed a large and loyal following on youtube as has other artist but is the youtube fame enough? Will it take you to touring on the major artist level. Is there a real difference to PENTATONIX( a huge youtube pop group) and VANJESS? It would seem that producers would be clamoring to at least feature these ladies (Jason Derulo “hey what’s up…” #SteadyDroppinHints).
Look their talent is without question (just check one of their videos if you doubt me) but what I’m curious about is, when did we become an industry that blatantly overlooks real talent (I mean you can’t miss it with these ladies…). I tell folks all the time, “the music industry isn’t about talent or fair, its about the deal that can be made (and at times the perceived leverage that the label wants…). Why isn’t Lyhor Cohen breaking his neck to sign these ladies. Hey Dame, these ladies could probably be your next meal ticket (and partner you’ll eat with these ladies #frfr). What Drake’s not looking for talent like this with this new super stable of artist he’s putting together and cosigning on the low ( It’s hard for me to believe Drake hasn’t seen these ladies. I mean can you imagine these ladies on a DVSN ‘Hallucination’ or ‘Too Deep’ track. I shudder at the thought #MassiveHit…).
It’s hard for me to believe that in the whole music industry and online that 2 of the best voices in the game aren’t even on the bench but sitting behind the bench 2 rows back (but whoever gets them, well it’ll be massive both in the success and financial category. These ladies have that ‘Whitney, Anita Baker, Donny Hathaway, Luther kind of talent. Are we no longer looking for that as music consumers (I’m not even questioning the industry, I asking about the fans). Look Vanjess is one hit away from real validation (so Vanjess get a hit that’s yours, not a cover. A real hit ‘yo’, not just a good track or song…) and their true fans are just a $1.29 from getting them there (that’s gotta be the cheapest KickStarter donation out there. #LetsStartAMovement #BuySomethingGreat). This is definitely gonna be a #GetAtMeIToldYa.
