GetAtMe Iggy vs HipHop Why is hiphop hating so bad on Iggy?

GetAtMe Iggy vs HipHop Why is hiphop hating so bad on Iggy? | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Hip Hop has a funny way of viewing things.  A genre that started out being an inclusive culture for the excluded, has become an exclusive culture for the included (the problem is that the inclusive is not the buying public and that type of strategy is suicidal in today’s business environment.  To put it bluntly, it’s just dumb…)

For a genre to grow it has to have an audience that grows the market, and hip hop in its growth has created an identity crisis for hiphop.  The fans of hiphop (the Iggy Azalea’s or Cardi B…) are now wanting to participate in hiphop as performers (and really isn’t that how it’s supposed to be?  That leads us to Iggy vs hip hop.

Certain folks in hiphop (media) have created an all out assault to derail Iggy (sort of like hiphop media extortion).  Her new song SWITCH is hot.  It's is a real dj cut.  The beat is hot and it’s better than most of the product that’s out.  Why haven’t you heard it?  Yes that is the question.

Look Iggy has always made it clear that she is a fan of hip hop and she wants to be part of hiphop culture (why is that so bad?)  In an era where sales are dwindling why wouldn’t hiphop want this sales monster under its name?  You know why?  Jealousy, plain and simple.  Iggy truly is the embodiment of HipPop but she chooses to struggle through the path of hiphop ( it’s her passion…)  What it seems like is that hiphop wants Iggy buying friends but not Iggy as an artist at the party and that’s just wrong.

Iggy has put in the work, as detailed in the recent Jezebal article http://jezebel.com/the-making-and-unmaking-of-iggy-azalea-1797030869 and really in a way others refuse to do, paid her dues.  So now after all her work and dues paying you want to say she not good enough, (which is silly because her product is great).  Backbone from the Dungeon Family says she’s one of the best.  What Iggy does is not hiphop, its hippop and dj’s who know the difference love her tracks.  Some people are mad because Iggy is white and at times appears to be culturally insensitive (which makes sense cause she’s from Australia and most of her hiphop education has been from MTV and BET (I’m oversimplifying to make a point…), so why would you expect her to know or care about certain issues that she probably wasn’t aware of being that she is from a different culture (although to be fair she seems very aware and confused by her not being accepted.  I read things in the Jezebel article that producers and industry folks said to her that were downright racist and sexist (and if it would have been the other way around the protest would have been a reactive news cycle on CNN…) Could it be that maybe someone is, mad because they just can’t take Iggy’s money like they have done with some mumble rappers (just a thought…)?  Some people are mad because she fine and very sexualized (okayyyyy...)  Is that really something to be mad about?

Iggy has a new song called SWITCH, and for the real dj’s that love hits, then give it a listen.  Hip hop can’t fight bigotry and be a bigot.  That’s definitely not the hiphop I signed up for.

The Making and Unmaking of Iggy Azalea

The Making and Unmaking of Iggy Azalea | GetAtMe | Scoop.it
During the summer of 2010, Iggy Azalea lived free of charge in a guest house in Los Angeles, courtesy of Polow Da Don. As the producer behind Fergie’s biggest hits, he saw Iggy as the second coming and wanted to groom her into a pop star. But Iggy had a much different vision—she wanted to be a hardcore rapper.
