Here’s the problem with celebrity exposure.  It opens you up for anyone (who wants to…) to say anything and supposedly you’re just supposed to make money and ignore them.  Well Baby has had enough (especially if he feels you making a mockery of his name is putting bread in your pocket.  You getting points off him but he can’t get any points off you… #ItDontWorkThatWay).  So Birdman sat down with Hot97NY (Ebro and Laura) and set some things straight… #GreatInterview

Birdman comes off not just intelligent, but unapologetically street intelligent (which seems to be a problem to certain parts of urban culture.  Usually the ones, who want to charge you to sound intelligent for you or worse, want to charge you to make you sound intelligent.  Some real W.E. Dubois sh*t…) and Birdman makes it clear he is gonna be Birdman.

When you’re successful the rumors can be crazy (many time by disgruntled or unsatisfied people involved in a situation…).  Birdman brought up a real valid point in this interview, He’s a gambler (which is something that the professional intelligencia hates or at best just don’t understand).  Birdman being a gambler really feels (as most gamblers do), if you don’t put up no dough, you can’t make no bread (a real gamblers creed…).  To cats like Birdman you gotta hunt to eat at the big table (a lot folks have a hard time with this value perspective…). I’ve never heard an artist tell the label “I’ll pay you back the money you lost developing me…”  Usually they just complain if it wins and they feel like they came up short.  Birdman probably just ignores people who feel entitled because he had to go take his and expect them to follow suit.

Ebro has to be one of the most misunderstood radio personalities in radio today (for some reason artist alway feel you're hating when you are not playing their new song...) There is a thin line between arrogance and confidence, Ebro has combinations of both.
Ebro is a true hiphop entreprenuer (which some mistake as a hiphop hustler, these are different paths folks...) and sometimes hiphop hustlers mistake Ebro as to being one of them when he is not. Does Ebro have hustle (of course he does...) but Ebro's hustle is defined by what he feels is the right path, not the right moment.
He's right when he says "it's not about us (radio personalities)... Sometimes folks in radio seem to forget that. Its has (and always be...) about the fans. Look if there are no fans then there is no money and no special moments. Dj's really need to be mindful of this.
Djing is about entertainment. On air is about informing fans in an entertaining forum. The more fans you have usually equates to the more money and opportunties that are presented to you. Some dj's misss this point and usually at some point, the Ebro's of the world will remind them.

Marisa Mendez has a podcast on Hot 97 FM New York.  It’s funny, refreshing and at times controversial.  What does Marisa talk about?  Her exploits with the stars (and the fans love the stories…).  Recently Marisa had a video discussing hanging out with folks (go check the vid out next the article…) and Lil Wayne.  The reception from online has been sorta crazy (especially based on many comments I read dudes post on hiphop honies threads on a daily.  Dudes really be out there…) So to read some of these comments and attacks about this funny and sexually independent chick, man it’s sorta crazy.  To read threads based on would you wife her after hearing her hiphop tales is silly (so chicks can’t be free and have fun as long as it’s safe?)

Anybody who reads my blog knows I’m a real opponent of FINE SHAMING (it’s stupid, who don’t want a fine girl, sh*t who don’t want a fun fine girl for that matter…?)  Men constantly brag about their exploits on tracks and in locker rooms so to hear this backlash about this funny and interesting girl is sorta strange.  I mean groupies are as much a part of hiphop as the music itself (truth be told getting the groupies are the real trophies and motivators that drive hiphop as a genre.  Who don’t like groupies? #WTF)

Hip Hop dudes need to turn it down a couple of levels and grow up (because the chick you’re with probably did worse and you just don’t know it.  Chicks are on the low with they freaky usually #ThinkAboutIt).  There’s nothing wrong with a sexually independent and cool chick branding herself with hiphop, why?  Because like I said, the groupies are why hiphop even exist “truth be told…”  Marisa keep doing your thing and enjoy life ma, there is no reset button on life…

“F *ck Hot 97 and F*ck Ebro” are not word s that came out of Drake’s mouth (at least not publicly…).  Why, I don’t think Drake is scared of Ebro (like he said, he broke this Drake as an artist to the world Drake is one of his seeds…), Drake’s just not that dumb ( “this ain’t the hand you wanna bite son, I feed you and you know it…” ).  You see, as much as many won’t want to admit it, Ebro is the Frankie Crocker (ex powerful New York radio personality) of hiphop now and he definitely wears the crown differently.

Frankie was flashy, Ebro is HipHop.  Frankie had a Rolls Royce, very few have seen (if at all…) what Ebro drives.  Frankie wore The Mack Furs, Ebro a T shirt and a baseball cap.  Those are the differences now here is the only similarity that matter.  Both had and have the ability to make or break an artist on their word (and Drake benefited from Ebro’s blessing…).  Why did Frankie in the past and Ebro now wield that power?  Because they both could hear music that their audience would engage with (notice I said not that they liked but that their audience would like.  Big difference…) and that factor is what makes Ebro very smart. Ebro is well aware of the difference in blessing of an artist or stressing an artist (it’s up to you…).

You see Charlemagne (at Power 105 in NY) can create attention, but Ebro creates moments and interest (and he realize and appreciate folks who know how to use that tactical skill).  That difference is what makes him smart.  Ebro plays chess whereas some other guys in radio play checkers (and will tell it chess because you’ve never seen a chess board).

So love him or hate him, you need to respect him because if you don’t he’s well aware of what f*ck you means and he’s also aware that it’s a 2 way street that right now, he owns the corners and the artist, (for right now) are just usually visiting during their 15 minute moments.  Artists come and go, but radio and labels live on that block we call the music business.  Like I said, Drake’s just not that dumb (or who knows, maybe he’s got another TV show in the works and he no longer wants or needs to live on hiphop’s block … Like I said “who knows?).
