What’s up folks?

First of let me start of by thanking the network Showtime for continuingly bringing great new shows, great content and great writing to television (Billions, Penny Dreadful, House Of Lies, Homeland, and my favorite about TV and writing Episodes.  Go catch any of these and you’ll be pleased).  I mean right when I look at a show and say “Imma pass on this one, I f*ck around and watch an episode and I get hooked on the show (it’s crazy, I wasn’t even checking for Roadies like that, but when I watched it, BAMMM…).

  Great television reminds you why you have a feeling about something (to me) and it has a way of reinforcing your feelings toward a situation (at least for me…).  The Showtime shows have this ingredient down like it’s a standard operating procedure (#frfr) and this makes for great Television.

Well after watching 2 episodes of the new Showtime series ROADIES. It definitely gets the great television thumbs up and here’s why.  Roadies reminded me as to why I love the music industry (trust me certain segments of hiphop music, media and TV makes it real hard to continue to love hiphop (hint: #LHHWherever …) and Roadies is an entertaining show that real music industry fans can enjoy.  Show’s like Empire and LoveAndHipHop lacks real substance when it actually comes to relating to the people in the music business (I mean no one on LHH actually sells music or hiphop at all.  Empire’s 1st season was great but after season one it turned into continuous mediatakeout/worldstar stuntfest that at times seemed like the writers were give a directive to write the worst shit possible for oohs and aahs stunts (“lets get men to kiss for views….”).  At times last year’s Empire was just bad (no disrespect Taraji and Terrance, yall deserve better scripts.  I mean when Kevin Hearts folks write better than your folks, well you see where I’m going with this... #ItStartsWithAGreatScript

Now back to my point (I know I just went all across the street and shit…).  Roadies is a great show.  It’s about the gypsy lifestyle of a traveling road crew who are all interesting and cohesive characters as a whole.  After just watching 2 episodes of Roadies, I’m hooked and I want to thank the show for reminding me that the music is about the fans, the feelings and the culture of music (if you do those things right, then not just the money and fame comes, but the legacy to your music is strong).  This ensemble cast does an excellent job of jumping in and out of plot routes to create impactive climax moments (especially this week show #YouGottaSeeIt).  They are funny, sad quirky but most importantly, they are human (which at times it seems like Empire sacrifices for headline stunts…).  These characters are people that you don’t mind sitting down and having a beer with and letting them share their oh so interesting tales with you about the music business #TellMeMore (which is what television is supposed to do…)

The emphasis on the feeling and the culture of music is really what makes this show works.  Look if you’re looking for villainess music industry gangster tales where the executives are shady thieves and the gangsters bully the victimized artist who are too weak to protect themselves (why is this perception in hiphop so prevalent and not so prevalent in other music genres #Hmmmm…), this isn’t the show for you.  If you’re a true lover of the music and the culture of the music industry, then this is your show.  So fix yourself a nice meal, grab some pinot noir and enjoy ShowTime’s ROADIES.  Sundays on SHOWTIME.

Man I’m a Bobby Axelrod fan (character from the Showtime series Billions).  Bobby is that dude.  This show covers many of today’s society’s misunderstanding of the drivingly wealthy (like becoming wealthy now is a bad thing…).  There has become some underlying thought process in society that if a person has become wealthy that somehow they cheated or went around the rules.  This show deals with that perception  and the pissing battle that ensues when a politically and  power driven prosecutor (Chuck Rhoades) is determined to bring down this powerful hedgefund manager (Bobby Axelrod) like he’s some sort of big game prize.  The twist and turn in this show makes for great TV.  Paul Giamatti and Damien Lewis were great cast as these actors.   As these powerful players who are on a catastrophic course to try and outdo or undo the other.

Bobby Axelrod is a real heroic character that built his thing from the ground up playing by the same rules that all of the players play by on Wall Street.  Why is he such a target for Chuck Rhoades?  Power, that it.  The powerful trophy of bagging the biggest prize in the game (no matter what it cost…).  Many times in this show Bobby Axelrod is presented with the “dirt” solution and everytime he passes (a fact that I feel many viewers pass over “You always have a choice…”).  “You always have a choice…” is a phrase he echoes constantly on the show like a wise sage to those who around him who have to make a tough choices.  The writer’s have made Axelrod so romantically charming and noble that’s it’s really hard to judge him on his questionable behavior as a trader.  Bobby Axelrod comes off as a great guy that you would love to drink beers with in a jersey bar.

I appreciate the Billion’s folks from Showtime for giving me this BILLION DOLLAR TWEET, but I really thank them for providing me with some really great TV with a story that has some bite and provokes us to think about some things and our perceptions of power, money and achievement.  Man I’ll accept a check from Bobby Axelrod any day.
