As I read about this young lady’s death, Kenneka Jenkins, really it took me a whole day to process this tragedy. How could something like this have happened?
It seems like we have become immune to the stories that are coming out of Chicago about Chicago youth but this one here is particularly disturbing. Why? Because of the senselessness of this incident.
2 days ago Kenneka Jenkins was another Chicago youth on her way out for a night being a youth. Somewhere along the way something tragic happened (we won’t speculate until all the facts are revealed…), Something so tragic that it cost this young lady her life (this has to be a parent’s worst nightmare no matter what the outcome…) If the speculations are true, that a friend set her up to be assaulted for $200.00 (speculation I remind you…) then as an adult, I’m lost for words (I mean that’s crazy…) The callousness in the video and the comments that some were making on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook were just as disturbing (is this the monster HipHop Online has created?)
In a matter of hours, this story was posted, commented on and viraled over the internet in a viral brush fire that made the Hurricane Irma news coverage the back story (at least online…) This tragedy (and I emphasize the word tragedy…) is almost to shocking to comprehend. We are hoping that this young lady and her mother find justice and an explanation to how something this tragic can happen and also, “how did our youth culture become this callous? Did Hip Hop created this kind of senselessness? This is truly crazy…
