DiaryOfAHitMan “You’re managers most important job is to find you a hit”
I’mma say this one time and I’m through with it. All this other so called bullshit some managers be doing (so called networking, idol building or whatever), their one and only real priority is to find you, the artist a hit.(period point blank).
Many new artist and writers want a shot (no problem). The problem becomes when someone invest their time and money. At the point that time and money are invested, then the situation becomes a business venture and the music business is definitely a music venture.
Managers are very important to this process. Some managers like to flex money. Other managers like to groom artist (I know right). Some mangers are good guys that have a business head and they want to be involved in something that’s growing. But I’m here to tell you right know, you’re job as manager is to find your artist a hit.
This is the music business, not the artist business and this business is fueled by a hit song (Yankee Doodle, My Way, Whoop There It Is.. you get the picture). This business takes catchy music and markets it to people who like catchy music. Period. The artist developes fans and friends but the buck stops unless you have a hit song.
Many artist somehow have developed the impression that if I can get someone to mess up enough money and they elevate me to a level of exposure that no one can miss me, then I will be a star (the internet has really contributed to this type of marketing foolishness). I mean we have a show called LoveAndHipHop that the artist on LoveAndHipHop are selling nothing. K Michelle is trying (and she’s talented) but no matter how many time we see her we’re still waiting for that smash song from her.
I love Rihanna’s people, why because they don’t bullshit around. They don’t play favorites with writers (somebody’s cousin or the artists homeboy bullshit) they go find her hit. Not just hits but SMASHES and they don’t miss. You see that kind of consistency starts with the manager. The manager first job is to make you a success (in spite of how you feel as an artist), because if you don’t succeed then money and time has been wasted. No hit, no money.
It’s great to have chemistry as an artist. It’s great to be the most talented musician around. It’s great to have all the rhyme skills in the universe. It’s great to have enough money to raise your exposure but until you find that hit song, you’re gonna come up short.

All I can say is Wow. Today's OnDaWallArtist The DollyRockers is wow. This groups is Taylor Swift times three. They do a great version of "Diamonds and why they ain't signed beats me (you A&R's need to get on it man for real). We have seen some great talent come through our OnDaWall slot but I really see big things from this group. Huge things. Now yall already know I get really excited when I when I find a new gem. This might be the most different thing I’ve heard in a while. I found BBoyd on HotNewHipHop as an artist trying to get in the weekly final 4. Man but this was so “oh wow”, I had to go on and get on it. Is BBoyd the new Eminem or a younger Macklemore & Lewis, I don’t know but this song is what this thing is all about (great production). Here’s the stats:

This is a great grade for a new artist coming out ( and now yall can see how a fully operational DeathStar performs #ICouldntResist). This is a great new artist with a great new song and the sales are already tumbling in.

When I began to put together this issue of RealTalk, I was going to try to investigate why everyone thinks K. Michelle is crazy (for the record I don't. Emotional yes, crazy no.). But in looking at the charts this week it came to my attention that Macklemore & Lewis had two singles in the top ten of Billboard this week (I thought noone was buying music. That's what I was told SMH). What an independent is selling without the blessings of the the Boss Rick Ross. You mean some one has went around the major labels. I can't believe they were able to do this without the illuminati (GTFOH LMAO). For the record the theory of the reason these guys are selling more than Gucci Mane is not because of some conspiracy from white executives from the major label to take over Hip Hop ( why, because they are not on a major label). These guy just do good music that's visually creative. that's it.
I love Scarface but his staements about the labels borderlined on being bigoted. How can people come from a culture of fighting intolorence become the intolorent. We should celebrate these guys for having a dream and turning it into green.
Sometimes as Blacks maybe we are to sensitive. I mean Scarface, Jay Prince, Suge Knight, Dame Dash, Luther Campbell were all guys that made good money off hip hop. Why didn't they take their money and become distributors? Who knows? But we have to celebrate guys like Macklemore and Lewis because they did it their way.
Even with this video, this video was about Americans of all colors, creeds and social cultures. This video is about exploring new vistas and creating a new world.
Blacks with money in hip hop have got to quit being cry babies about someone's taking hip hop and come to terms that hip hop has just grown up both as a cultural communication tools and trend setting brand statement. If you want to see great music that's being sold by someone who is different and innovative then check out Macklemore & Lewis.
I mean 2 soundtrack cuts on major Movie soundtracks (Pain & Gain and The Internship). The OKC Thunder have made their song "Can't Hold Us" as their hype song for the team (that's 18,000 potential buyers every game). This group is turning out to be the new age Tag Team "Whoop There It is". You see "Whoop There It Is" is the largest selling single in the music business behind "White Christmas"(That a real accomplishment).
These guys sell because their fans buy. Its that simple.
