Here’s the great thing about the webisode series, it keeps an artist’s name out there by showing their back story (which sometimes may be a little more interesting than the music.  Not in this case although because The City Girls have hit music...)  The music business is about selling dreams, to the artist, to the labels and to the fans.  Rarely do we have the ability to see the moments, pressures and decisions that leads us up to a hit act and show.  This new webisode “Yung Miami’s Secrets/ City Girls – the series” is a behind the scenes look at the pressures and the moments that go into being one of The City Girls (this is a great treatment for a reality show.  This is how you do it...).  Check out this new youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DmGbt-GHQI and enjoy this behind the scenes look at one of today’s most popular female rap duo.  Remember “theirs nothing wrong with the music business that good music can’t cure...”

This is one of the realist statements I’ve read in some time.  Jobs are cool but rarely do they create wealth and as bills, taxes, emergencies and day to day situations arise, income from jobs tend to sometimes not add up (hence the acronym J.O.B. just over broke…) Its really all in how we see things and when people view things from a perspective of scarcity then that’s usually when stupid ideas take root.

Jah Jah and 1Play are on the move with one of this year hottest club grooves GET WIT IT.  Dj’s are already in motion with this cut and now this cut is on the way to you.  Jah Jah has her style of ATL/club joints.  That’s dance music with a high energy level.  1Play does his thing as he comes in on this cut sounding very much like s stripclub djs with bars.  like I said this definitely is one for the clubs.

When I first heard this cut I was like wow, “This thing here is strong…”  Mahalia’s DO NOT DISTURB needs to disturb the dj in you.  This one’s hot. Here’s the TrackView:

• TRACK 5 ($$$$$) Man this track jumps right at you from the intro break.  This production is real dance music (reminds you of a Lisa Stansfield track.  What’s going on in the UK… #NewMusic )
• PERFORMANCE 5 ($$$$$) Mahalia rides this cut like a pro.  This song is put together very well… (man she’s got a voice… #ItsAHit )
• SONG 5 ($$$$$) This song is hot and with the right dj support, it can make moves.  Mahalia has developed an underground following that show plenty of support in the mud.  Now they need to show support on itunes and she will click in… #RealFansBuy
• MUSCLE 1.7 ($.7) This artist has developed a quiet following that has to emerge for her to grow.  She needs RNB mixtapes and a stronger street buzz..  Online is starting her conversation for now.  As more bloggers and influencers become more aware of her then we should see more interest… #DjAlert
• JUICE 1.5 ($.5) The MUSCLE (streets/mixtapes & online/media) has to really engage on this one for the JUICE (dj/clubs & radio) to really get any momentum.  This is a great song although… #LetsGetIt
• HITFACTOR 3.6 ($$$.6) This is a great song but the other factors must be in place for this cut to work (as in the case of most songs…)  This is why itunes sales are so important cause it let’s influencers know a song has real market legs and it can make it… (this is a strong cut.
• TOTAL 21.8 (grade B) This cut gets a B grade just on the song alone...  They have some work to do in their product push phase but if the label properly positions this cut, it could happen ( #FRFR )

Like I said before, doing this mix was fun.  It’s always cool to do the holiday thing but this mix really came together this year.  Here’s the lineup

We start off the mix a classic Donny Hathaway, THIS CHRISTMAS  Man you can’t go wrong with this Donny classic.  Then we have Take 6 doing THE CHRISTMAS SONG… (now that’s good music…)

• We then have a BeatMakanixxx version of THIS CHRISTMAS …( I was shocked at how much BeatMakanixxx material I already had...) and then I went into a Petatonix/BeatMakanixxx mix of MARY DID YOU KNOW …( a personal favorite of mine…)
• We found a nice mix of THIS CHRISTMAS by an indie artist Deneshia (really a great version…) and then I did a BeatMakanixxx mix on the Dave Koz/ Heather Headley version of GROWN UP CHRISTMAS LIST  (man this cut is hot,,,)
• Man I like the Amazon CAN YOU FEEL IT as so much, I made it into a mix ( this is gonna be a holiday classic now… #CanYouFeelIt).  Then we mixed in the 69 boys WHATCHA WANT FOR CHRISTMAS, ( this 69 Boys still rides…)
• We go back to another Pentatonix/Beatmakanixxx mix with LIL DRUMMER BOY (you can’t miss with Pentatonix…). Then we mix in Justin Bieber/ Boy II Men FA LA LA (man this cut was a surprise, you gonna love it…)
• We found an Elle Mai/ Chris Brown Christmas cut THIS XMAS (I don’t think no one has this one…) and we then mixed in Marq Dean HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LIL CHRISTMAS (BeatMakanixxx mix....)
• We then mixed in a BeatMakanixxx original CAN YOU FEEL IT ON XMAS DAY (a lil version of my Salsoul sound…). We wrapped it up with a Heather Headley/Beatmakanixx mix of DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR (Heather Headley really is that next level voice…)

Man when I sat down to make this mix, I never realized I had so many BeatMakanixxx Xmas joints (lsmh… frfr)  So I had so much music to choose from, at first I was a little overwhelmed, but I’m very happy with my choices.  With the success of last year’s mix I was really challenged to make a better mix (and this one really works…)  Yall know my passion for the mix and djsinglemix.  Music has always and will be a foundation for people life’s check points and here at GetAtMe, the mix is my ministry.  Happy Holidays from GetAtMe and enjoy this mix

On this date in 2002, the illustrious DJ of the legendary Run-D.M.C. was gunned down in a studio in his hometown of Hollis, Queens. He was 37 years old.

An unknown person fatally shot Mizell in a recording studio on Merrick Blvd. in Jamaica, Queens. The other person in the room, 25-year-old Urieco Rincon, was shot in the ankle but survived.

In 2003, Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff, a convicted drug dealer and longtime friend of Murder Inc. heads Irv and Chris Gotti, was investigated for killing Mizell because the DJ defied an industry blacklist of then upcoming rapper 50 Cent that was imposed because of “Ghetto Qu’ran”, a song 50 Cent wrote about Queens drug kingpins, including McGriff’s drug history.

In April 2007, federal prosecutors named Ronald “Tenad” Washington as an accomplice in the murder. Washington also is a suspect in the 1995 murder of Randy “Stretch” Walker, a former close associate of the late rapper Tupac Shakur, who was also murdered. According to court papers filed by the prosecution, Washington pointed his gun at those present in the studio, ordered them to get on the ground and provided cover for his associate to shoot and kill Jason Mizell, however, he was never convicted and no new suspects have been named.

This murder remains unsolved, but former Hip Hop cop Derrick Parker says he knows who killed Jam Master Jay and the case will be solved in the near future.

This senseless killing was one of many unsolved murders in the Hip Hop community, which has been plagued by gun violence. Let’s hope that this somber moment in Hip Hop history will prompt our youth to put the guns down

Imma tell you right now, I love this cut (but yall already know what a proponent I am for djsinglemix, so that’ no surprise…)  I started this section so as I could give deserving indie cuts a profile without their low iTunes numbers affecting them or my charts (get your numbers up folks…)  At the end of the day sales is the bottomline, not just market positioning.   So we started this segment for just these type of cuts… #enjoy

I found this week’s cut (because I’m gonna review more indie cuts (As I’ve already said “folks get your numbers up…)  We’re spotlighting Lompyt ATTACK FROM BASS.  Here’s the track…

• TRACK - 3.9 pts (out of 5.0 pts) As I’ve already said I like this track...(great dj cut…)
• PERFORMANCE - 3.3 pts This is a dj cut so it’ss filled with breaks and samples… (for the djs…)
• ENERGY - 4.3 pts what really drives this cut is the driving beat… (In the mix…)
• SONG/CONTENT – 3.3 pts Like I said this is just a fun song.  The alien premise is hot…(“people of earth surrender…”)
• INTRO/BREAKS – 3.3 pts There are constant breaks that are hot in this and the lead in works…
• MIXFACTOR – 3.7 pts This song mixes well because there are so many mix points.  This song loses no energy in the breaks…
• HITFACTOR – 2.6 pts This is clearly a dj cut and it’s just starting the muscle phase (product push…), so juice (demand pull is a ways down the road.  The right video could viral this one out…
• TOTAL – 24,4 pts Grade C+ (which is a great score for an indie…)  If the djs like this cut then they will make it a genre hit.  If Lompyt wants to make this cut work, a Pentatonix performance on this cut would do it (they would be a strong tribe…

• Travis Scott SICKO MODE stays at #1 (that Kardashian juice is for real…) and Ella Mae TRIP stays at num 2 (she couldn’t get around Travis Scott…)
• Drake NONSTOP moves to num 3 (radio is driving this one…) and falling to num 4 is Juice Wrld LUCID DREAMS (this one’s holding on…)
• At num 5 is Lil Duval SMILE BITCH (its on the cli It could be num 1 if they had stronger sales numbers…) and num 6 is Sheck Wes MO BAMBA (this is the one that’s hot right now… #frfr  NE )
• At num 7 is 6ix9ine FEFE (strong retail…) and at num 8 is Lil Wayne UPROAR (this is a strong cut for Weezy… NE)
