Microsoft has its own way of delivering more for less to its consumers. One prime example of such philosophy is the company’s SkyDrive service, which has been integrated into both Windows and Office ecosystems, so users can sync their files directly to the cloud without having to rely on any third-party means. But while Windows 8 offers access to your SkyDrive account under both Modern UI and Desktop environments, you’re locked with only one option to access your cloud content on Windows RT, i.e. through the Windows Store SkyDrive app. On the bright side however, Windows boasts an interesting feature that lets you map your SkyDrive account in Desktop mode via the Map Network Drive option. This makes it easier to access your SkyDrive files without leaving the desktop mode. Read on to find out how.

While you can recover deleted mail from the Deleted folder in Outlook.com, if you were to ever delete files from your SkyDrive account by mistake, there was no way to restore them back. Realizing that this was a requirement of many, Microsoft has added the Recycle Bin to SkyDrive.com. Also, realizing that students were one of its key audiences, Microsoft has been encouraging them to use its most versatile cloud service for backing up their important documents and sharing stories. To make things better, they have Excel Survey Features to SkyDrive.

Microsoft today announced a new Recycle Bin feature on SkyDrive and revealed that an “Excel surveys” feature will be coming in the next few weeks. The software giant says the additions are a result of students giving feedback about using SkyDrive, which the company tried to convince them is their new “cloud backpack.”
Anyway, let’s look at the new Recycle Bin, since that feature is actually out. You may not see it yet, as Microsoft says it may take up to 24 hours to appear in your SkyDrive account.

The SkyDrive gadget for Xobni allows you to access your SkyDrive files from Outlook, so you can easily send them to others. Simply find the file in your SkyDrive account that you want to share, and with a single click you can either copy the link to your clipboard or open a new mail with that link already included. If the file is not already share-able, it will be made share-able and only available via the copied URL.
By bringing SkyDrive into Outlook, you can easily share large files without worrying about email file size limitations.

If you have installed Microsoft’s new SkyDrive app for Windows (or Mac) yesterday, you have noticed that only the contents of the selected root folder are being synchronized with the cloud and other devices. This is similar to how Dropbox is handling the file synchronization. While you could now move some of the external folders that you want synced into the root folder, you could alternatively use so called symbolic links or junction points to achieve the same.

A noter également l'annonce par Microsoft de la sortie de deux applications de bureaux pour gérer son compte Skydrive sur PC et Mac.
