Huge Adobe Partnership to Open Source Flex with Apache Software Foundation … | Adam Flater : Technology Blog | Everything about Flash | Scoop.it

… Could have been the title of this post 3 months ago. Given the recent layoffs and announcements in the past few weeks, it may seem short sighted to be overly excited faced with this news today.

Can Adobe kill Flash?

I continue to hear from recruiters looking for senior Flex and Flash developers. The recruiters represent clients who are looking for engineers, trainers, and architects to work on new projects as well as existing applications. So perhaps you will understand when I say that I’m still not convinced that Flash is dead.

Flex 5 most wanted features – Polls and results « Adobe Flex Tutorial

A couple of days ago, I put together an online meeting (using Adobe Connect) with French developers about the future of Flex. This meeting wasn't about Flex being dead or not, or complaining about Adobe decisions. Instead, we tried to think of features that would make Flex even better than it is today.

Flexcursion with Apache

Flexcursion with Apache | Everything about Flash | Scoop.it

What a week! Adobe made a lot of announcements which raised a lot of questions on the web, and led to a lot of WTF (which meant”What The Flex” right?). I feel that since MAX, the Flex community was expecting some clarification about the future of Flex.

// A little quote, which is, according to me, pretty hopeful : [[Don’t worry, if HTML5 becomes the standard for RIA apps, then the best HTML5 RIA developers of tomorrow will be today’s Flex developers. Why? Because RIA development is not just a matter of language. RIA developers have a lot of specific skills (design awareness, client-side architectures, service exposure architecture, user-experience, mobile applications conception and optimization to name a few).]] //

Changes can often be uncomfortable, but what does Adobe Flex migrating to the open source Apache Foundation mean from a historical view? Let’s look at some commercial projects and their migration to open source.

Jeffry Houser's Blog: In Defense of Flash

This is a modified version of a letter I wrote to a client to defend the choice of using Flash. This issue has come up due to some recent PR heat that Adobe is abandoning Flash. I believe that Flash and Flex were the right choice for building Enterprise applications a year ago. I believe that Flash and Flex are the right choice for building Enterprise applications today. As HTML5 tooling, frameworks, and related resources improve I will reevaluate my needs and the needs of my clients on a routine basis. I had to remove some client specific information, but the bulk of the information remains the same.

Flash Professional and the Future at Mike Chambers

Flash Professional and the Future at Mike Chambers | Everything about Flash | Scoop.it

Yesterday was probably one of the most overwhelming days of my entire career. First, Adobe informed developers that we are going to stop developing the Flash Player for mobile browsers, then news came out that there were layoffs at Adobe, and finally, Adobe held a financial analyst meeting where we spelled out the Creative Cloud, and the fundamental strategic shift Adobe is making.
