Rainer Weiss, professor emeritus of physics at MIT, has won a share of the 2017 Nobel Prize in physics, in recognition of his contribution to the direct detection of gravitational waves by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory, or LIGO.
Congratulations to Rainer Weiss and Kip S. Thorne as the 2017 Nobel Prize for physics. They showed great vision, intellect, patience and perseverance for Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory, or LIGO. Our world moved and they measured it.
