Austria claims winter success | Club euro alpin: Economie tourisme montagne sports et loisirs | Scoop.it

Figures just released show that winter tourist visits have gone up. There are less German but many more Swiss and Russians taking ski holidays in Austria. German visits between November 2011 and January 2012 were down 4.1%. Official figures show overall there were 28 million overnight stays in the three month period. The rise in Swiss visitors, up 20.4%, is put down to the weakness of the euro against the Swiss franc thus making it cheaper to ski. Russian numbers are up 16.1% which is accounted for by an overall expansion of interest in skiing from the growing Russian middle classes pus a series of industry initiatives.
