Our Newest 3 Minute Tech Tool Tutorial: Screencast-O-Matic | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"Screencasting, or capturing what you do on your computer (or tablet) in a video format while you narrate your actions, is one of the most powerful functions that modern computer technology has delivered to today’s educators."

Beth Dichter's insight:

EmergingEdTech has been running a Try-a-Tool-a-Week Challenge and this week Screencast-O-Matic is the tool of the week. If you have not used this tool and are interested in doing screencasting (also known as screen capture) take the time to review this video.

The free version allows you to record up to 15 minutes, but you cannot edit the film. There is a paid version for $15 per year, which allows for editing and unlimited length! Screencast-O-Matic may be used as a web app, or you can download it (PC and Mac).

Becky Roehrs's curator insight, November 23, 2014 4:14 PM

The free version doesn't record audio, so use Jing which is free but only records 5 minute videos. Otherwise, pay for Screencast-O-Matic or pay for Snagit (Educator license)..Snagit has lots of features for screenshots and no limits on your video length.

Qualitative Formative Assessment Toolkit

Qualitative Formative Assessment Toolkit | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it
Reshan Richards discusses the use of Explain Everything & iPads to build a Qualitative Formative Assessment Toolkit.
Beth Dichter's insight:

As mobile devices come into our classrooms we need to provide opportunities for students to create formative assessments that show their process of learning. You may have a tablet, an iPad or SmartPhone...and all of the have the ability to record, be it an image, video, screencast or screenshot.

You will also find examples of what a 5th grade student might have done in a math unit.
