School suspensions during freshman year seem to have a lasting effect on students' high school careers—but not in the way they are intended.

It turnes "a student suspended even once in ninth grade is less likely to graduate from high school compared to his or her peers who never got in trouble." The bad news is that along the way, I discovered that public schools are not prepared to fairly compete for their students’ attention. This has resulted in a long series of slightly traumatizing events.
