5 Brilliant ‘Design Your Own Game’ Websites for Students | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it
Five 'design your own game' sites for creative students and learners to take gaming to a deeper level by creating and designing games them self.
Beth Dichter's insight:

What a great idea...have your students design their own games. This post provides information of five websites that allow you to design your own game. Each has some information that may help you decide which you would like to test. The list of five:

* Sploder - "use simple command tools to create intricate games of all kinds, from arcade to platform games, space adventures to physics puzzles"

* Draw4Play - "Ideal for younger students, this game allows the player to create their own pathway for a stick man hero..."

* Isoball3 - "Great for learning about kinetics, this physics game requires students to create the landscape of their own game..."

* Jacksmith - "...great for younger students...is in cartoon form"

* Purpose Games - "...this site allows them to design more academic games, like multiple-choice quizzes, head-to-head ‘knowledge battles’ or map-based geography games."

Meograph – 4 Dimensional Story Telling Web 2.0 Style

Meograph – 4 Dimensional Story Telling Web 2.0 Style | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it
Beth Dichter's insight:

This post from Mark Gleeson provides a great overview of Meograph, a fairly new Web 2.0 tool that allows you tell stories using images/videos, text, maps and a timeline, or as Gleeson states the "who/what, when, and where." In addition Gleeson takes the time to describe how to use the tool in words as well as a video, and also discusses some of the issues that he experienced. The Meograph website is geared to journalism and education. The education section states that the benefits of the site include "making learning fun with interactive content, easy for students to create their own projects, and perfect for history, literature and more." To go directly to the education site click http://www.meograph.com/education.

A Curator's Code - Honoring Discovery thru a Code of Ethics | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"As both a consumer and curator of information, I spend a great deal of time thinking about the architecture of knowledge. Over the past year, I’ve grown increasingly concerned about a fundamental disconnect in the “information economy”: In an age of information overload, information discovery — the service of bringing to the public’s attention that which is interesting, meaningful, important, and otherwise worthy of our time and thought — is a form of creative and intellectual labor, and one of increasing importance and urgency. A form of authorship, if you will...."

Running for Office - Cartoons of Clifford K. Berryman

Running for Office - Cartoons of Clifford K. Berryman | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

Political cartoons are unlike any other form of political commentary. Visual in nature, cartoons show altered physical traits and highlight minute details to make a specific point. With simple pen strokes, they foreshadow the future, poke fun at the past, and imply hidden motives in ways that elude written or spoken reporting. The result of this creative license is a unique historical perspective—entertaining, clever, and insightful.

Word Clouds: 125 Ways... And Counting... To Use Wordle In The Classroom

Word Clouds: 125 Ways... And Counting... To Use Wordle In The Classroom | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it
Welcome to a post I always have  fun writing. Last May I attempted finding ways to use Word Clouds (Wordle) in education. When I concluded writing that post I was at 108 possible ways. More than a ...
Beth Dichter's insight:

Mike Gorman returns with 125 ways to use Word Clouds in your classroom. Although focused on Wordle any of the many tools available to create word clouds could be used. Gorman has taken the time to organize these ways into the following categories:

* All Subjects

* Science

* Language Arts

* Social Studies

* Math

* Health and PE and Consumer Sciences

* Art and Music

* Foreign Languages
* Applied Arts

* Careers

Below are two of the 125 suggestions. The first one is for science.

* Create a simple food chain showing representing each population of animal by word size. In fact create a whole food web of an area or biome. Use advanced number feature.

And this one is for social studies.

* Using statistical information from a place such as CIA World Fact Book create word clouds that illustrate country statistics such as resources, ethnic groups, religions, languages, etc.  You may wish to use advanced number feature to illustrate prominence of each.

7 Tips on How to Break Through the Most Common Creative Barriers (Infographic) | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"It is not uncommon for many of us to have thoughts and ideas rustling around in our heads with the inability to get them out onto paper. This is referred to as a creative barrier or block, which most of us have become all too familiar with at one time or another.

This graphic is filled with tips that will help you in getting out of your creative rut and back into the swing of things."

Ken Morrison's comment, August 1, 2012 11:00 AM
It is interesting that two of these deal with confidence. I agree that it is important to avoid throwing out good ideas. We all have to sell. Even the best ideas don't sell themselves.

Life in a Inquiry Driven, Technology-Embedded, Connected Classroom: English | Powerful Learning Practice

Life in a Inquiry Driven, Technology-Embedded, Connected Classroom: English | Powerful Learning Practice | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

I teach in an inquiry, project-based, technology embedded classroom. A mouthful, I know. So what does that mean? To begin with, I don’t lecture. My students don’t take notes, at least not in the traditional sense, and we don’t read a novel and simply answer the questions.
