In any course, face2face or online, one of our goals as teachers is to help students move take previous knowledge and extend it to new areas. This post provides four instructional strategies that help students make these shifts: * Comparing * Contrasting * Metaphors * Analogies These four strategies are similar in that they require learners to compare at least two items and find similarities and differences. They provide a "simple technique" that helps students "master complex content." Additional information is available on each of these strategies, as well as links to additional resources.
