A Sure-Fire Way to Improve Reading Fluency

A Sure-Fire Way to Improve Reading Fluency | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"Telling your students that they need to become fluent readers is an abstract concept that will help neither you nor your students. You can give them examples of what fluent readers do, model reading in a fluent way; but they will not truly understand the idea until they experience it themselves."

The post discusses having students:

* Learn by Doing

* Epiphanies they may discover

* Options for recording

It also provides resources for recording in PowerPoint 2003 and 2007, a fluent reader checklist and a tutorial on how to use Audacity.

I have been using these tools with my students in order to improve their speaking. I give them an English text and they have to record it during the week (It's a weekly activity). After that they bring the mp3 file to class and I correct it and they receive feedback. Later, the original audio of the text is given to them and they study to record again. They really enjoy it !!!

Audacity

Audacity is free cross platform, open source software for recording and editing sound.

Great for recording students assessments. Students are motivated by end of unit recordings. It is free and is a great tool for teachers to listen back to performances when marking them.
