The Student-Centered Classroom - Liberate Learners To Flip Their Own Lessons

The Student-Centered Classroom - Liberate Learners To Flip Their Own Lessons | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"The expanded availability of easy tech tools has empowered educators to rethink homework and daily instruction. Flipping the classroom with teacher-made videos allows students to self-direct their at-home learning. Many of these clips, however, still involve a one-day delivery of information, from teacher to student. Another approach is to allow children to make their own educational videos. They can enlighten their classmates with their creations, and they can teach themselves the material and the skills during the process of production."

Beth Dichter's insight:

Have you considered having students use the Adobe Voice app (iPad) to create materials that others may use to review work? This post shares how one school has done this with 8th grade students and provides 3 videos embedded in the post as well as a link to a page where you can see more student work.

The post also discussed "four key proficiencies" that students may demonstrate as they create an Adobe Voice video:

* Symbolic and visual metaphor - in choosing images and/or icons  and their definitions of words students are demonstrating understanding of figurative meaning.

* Narrative - students narrate their story and provide images that seamlessly move from one point to another within the story.

* Text- students select key text, highlighting vocabulary.

* Design - students learn critical elements necessary to convey content. Elements may include, music, images, voice, color, transitions, layout and more.

Exploratorium's Experience Experts Deliver Awesome iPad App

Exploratorium's Experience Experts Deliver Awesome iPad App | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

The Exploratorium has just "released Sound Uncovered, its second free iPad app, which the creators showed me during a visit to the unfinished museum. As I explored the app's exhibits, the tablet disappeared in my hands. When you launch this app, you're in the museum, no matter where you are...It takes 40 years of user experience wizardry to build a museum app this amazing."

Beth Dichter's insight:

The Exploratorium now has two free apps for the iPad. The first one released is Color Uncovered and now Sound Uncovered. According to this post "both "buffet-style" collections of short, multi-sensory exhibits. You can select from a table of contents or swipe through like a magazine. The first was Color Uncovered, which uses properties of the tablet's display to demonstrate properties of light. The new app, Sound Uncovered, uses both the speakers and microphones, as well as text and video explanations, to show off some of the surprisingly bizarre properties of sound."

I have found many wonderful resources on the Exploratorium website, and suspect that both these apps would be great to have on iPads used in schools.

VoiceNote: Another Excellent Voice-to-Text App for Google Chrome

VoiceNote: Another Excellent Voice-to-Text App for Google Chrome | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

Once again Paul Hamilton brings us another great tool to use with Chrome, VoiceNote. He states that it "offers excellent voice-to-text...VoiceNote opens as a dictation window." Therefore it may "sit on top of a document being written" (or occupy your entire screen). A few of the features he mentions are:

* dictating directly into a text box facilitates creating paragraphs or longer selections of text

* on-screen buttons for adding punctuation

* suport for multiple languages
