What Is Web 3.0 And How Will It Change Education?

What Is Web 3.0 And How Will It Change Education? | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it
We'll reach a new state of web skills when we reinvent technology tools to better enhance our personal learning. We'll be at 3.0 when schools are everywhere and not viewed as daycare.
Beth Dichter's insight:

Web 3.0 has been shared on this Scoop.it and this table is a bit different from previous ones. What do you think? Is your school heading towards a Web 3.0 environment, where teachers will not only be those whom are licensed professionals but also those who are accesible on line from all parts of the worlld? Will schools graduate students whom view industrywill view as co-workers whom are prepared for a knowledge economy? This table presents what may be in the future. What do you think?

Edu-Gadgetry - Is it a Panacea?

Edu-Gadgetry - Is it a Panacea? | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"If communication does not happen in a vacuum, neither does magic. As many know,iPads have become one of the most recent panacea to the many woes in education. From primary education to higher education, iPads are being introduced in classrooms. What do they fulfill?"

Beth Dichter's insight:

This post explores iPads and how they are used in classrooms, noting that "hey will not magically increase learner engagement if learners are not themselves motivated to learn, nor can they be used in the same way in all educational contexts." Patras goes on to discuss mobile learning, again raising questions such as "...doesn’t there need to be a differentiation among the educational levels and environments in order that the use of the tool better fits the needs and demands of learners?" (In this question she is referring to iPads as the tool.)

At the end she provides she looks provides the table (image above) that shows the difference between Web 1.0, Web 2.0 and Web 3.0, the directions she says we are moving. What are your thoughts?

I guess this process will take time to be a reality

Projects In Web 3.0: Privacy Is The New Predator

Projects In Web 3.0: Privacy Is The New Predator | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"Student digital privacy is a critical currency, to be safeguarded by schools and pillaged by predators. Interactive, social Web 3.0 resources demand proactive ways to access tech tools and still preserve learners’ anonymity.
In the changing edtech landscape, student safety is taking on new dimensions and new gravity. When every online resource now is interactive and linked to social media, Web 3.0 often requires clever ways to give students access to the learning tools they need and still preserve their innocence."

Beth Dichter's insight:

How do we teach students the concept of privacy? How do we help them understand this concept when so much of their lives are online and open to all?

This post discusses how "privacy is the new predator", providing many resources to help you work with your students.

Have you heard about Facehawk? It is an interactive video that takes information from your Facebook account and creates a hawk that uses "photos and statuses from since your digital life began."

On one hand we tell students that they need to keep their private information private, yet websites ask them to upload their picture. To assist with this issue there is a list of websites that allow students to create avatars.

Additional resources focus on Digital Citizenship and Modern Internet Safety, Web 3.0, and New Media Literacy.

Preparing our students for Web 3.0 learning

How do we prepare out students for Web 3.0 learning? This slide show by Judy O'Connell provides us an opportunity to look back in time, from what we might refer to as Web 0 and the journey to where we are today and where we are heading. Many define Web 2.0 as the social web. Web 3.0 will be defined by data, and the ability to link data in new ways. Many excellent resources are embedded within this slide show, so find some time to pull up your chair and learn more about what the future may hold.
