Four Ways to Think About Using ThingLink - Rethinking ThingLink

Four Ways to Think About Using ThingLink - Rethinking ThingLink | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"Thinglink is a powerful tool, and some new uses are making it even more compelling. Beyond creating pictures with links, images, and videos, a “next level” exists that turns ThingLink into a powerful organizer, aggregation tool, and curator."

Beth Dichter's insight:

ThingLink is a great tool for educators, and with their free educator account that allows you to create a classroom your students may also have accounts. This post suggests four ways you might use ThingLink with your students:

1. Student Organizational Tool

2. Digital Portfolios

3. Showcasing Classroom Learning

4. Assignment and Task Organizer

More information is available in the post on these suggestions. If you are new to ThingLink this post may provide you with some new ideas. There are also three ThingLink images that have links embedded in them that you might check out, as well as one image that is by a student. You cannot see the links, but you can see how the students organized their work. If you have not used ThingLink check out their website and create an account. Then have fun playing.

A ThingLink challenge and new video tagging

A ThingLink challenge and new video tagging | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"One of the most versatile and easiest-to-use platforms I’ve used over the past several years is ThingLink.

I’ve used the interactive poster tagging tool to create and embed media-rich image maps, to annotate and evaluate the claims infographics make, as a portfolio and as a curation tool."

Beth Dichter's insight:

ThingLink has been around for quite some time and is a great tool for educators. This summer they are running a professiona development program which is free and self-paced (and it is not too late to join). For more information on this opportunity check out the Google+ Community.

ThingLink has also just launched a new video tagging tool. For more information on that check out the post.

Free Technology for Teachers: Make Interactive Images on ThingLink Education

Free Technology for Teachers: Make Interactive Images on ThingLink Education | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

Richard Byrne shares a short tutorial on using ThingLink to create interactive images. ThingLink is now offering educators and students free accounts (create up to 50 images for free) or a paid plan with 500 images at a discounted price. How might you use ThingLink. He suggests that it "could be used by art students to identify and tag important elements of a picture, drawing, or photography...could also be used in history classes to have students identify important places in a battlefield like Gettysburg." What ideas do you have for using this tool?

Tap Into Sound with ThingLink & Audioboo

Tap Into Sound with ThingLink & Audioboo | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"This weeks ThingLink Teacher Challenged asked participants to focus on audio as they design lessons. We introduced Audioboo as an integrated web based platform and app that easily captures and collects audio for use. The goal of this challenge is to use ThingLink to design a multimedia rich learning experiences to support the diverse needs of all learners."

Beth Dichter's insight:

Are you looking for tools that provide you with the opportunity to create rich, multimedia lessons and that support differentiation? The ThingLink Challenge that has been running this summer had one week that focused on using audio as well as ThingLink (for images and/or video) to design a learning experience.

This post from Susan Oxnevad provides great resources. She has embedded a video from CAST that discussed Universal Design for Learning and has links to resources as you watch. Just pause the video and check out the link!

You can also check out "Turn it Up with Audioboo on Padlet." This page provides access to a range of ThingLink projects that have audio links. You will need to click on the title of the image, which will take you to a page with a larger view, and on the lower right hand side you should see the word Source (in red) that will take you to the actual ThingLink page.

Best Websites for Teaching & Learning 2014

Best Websites for Teaching & Learning 2014 | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"The 2014 Best Websites for Teaching & Learning foster the qualities of innovation, creativity, active participation, and collaboration. They are free, Web-based sites that are user friendly and encourage a community of learners to explore and discover."

Beth Dichter's insight:

Yesterday I posted the top choices from the American Association of School LIbrarians (AASL) on the best apps for 2014. Today they listed the top websites in the following categories:

* Media Sharing

* Digital Stories

* Manage & Organize

* Social Networking & Communication

* Content Resources

* Curriculum Collaboration

As you review the websites you will find one or more standards that are addressed by the websites.

Although I know many of the websites, there are some that are new to me that I look forward to exploring. Below are several that I have used and really like, or are ones I have checked out and will be using in the future.

Are you looking for new tools and want ideas on how to use them as well as examples and links to learn more about the tool. Check out Remix-t, a site from the University of Notre Dame, that is chock full of great ideas and resources. Although this site is geared to college teachers the resources and examples will provide you with great ideas and you will be able to modify them for your classroom. You will find in under Content Resources.

Mixed Ink is a new site to me. It allows you to create a group of students who will write together. They may comment and evaluate the submissions and each students' writing will show up in a different color. This looks like  a great site, esp. for schools that are not using Google apps.

There are many more that I will be exploring. Do you have a favorite website? Share them in the comment section and let us know why it is a favorite of yours.

A ThingLink Channel for Teachers

A ThingLink Channel for Teachers | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it
Beth Dichter's insight:

ThingLink continues to add new features for educators, and one new item is the ability to create a ThingLink Channel (and you can also  create a class and have your students create ThingLink). Check out this interactive album that provides access to some posts from the ThingLink blog...and if you have not yet created a ThingLink account you might want to head over to ThingLink (http://www.thinglink.com/) and create an account.

Kimberly House's curator insight, February 22, 2014 6:28 AM

Love ThingLink and now it's even better for teachers and classes! Teachers can see all their students' work in one place. Teachers can add student accounts. I'm interested to see how it works on the iPad and am hopeful that these features are transferred to the app as well. ThinkLink is a great product and I'm pleased to see it getting better and more useful for education.
