To learn more head over to Connected Classroom as you have to submit an application to join. Your school will have also have to support Google+. With budget cuts in education this is a great opportunity for students to experience trips to locations that they may never be able to visit in person.

Love the ideas this presents. I think Google+ has lots of valuable possibilities, if adoption can be found. Trying to tie it as another Facebook just won't work. They need to find their niche and adopt it. This seems like a great use of their resource.

9 Digital Learning Tools Every 21st Century Teacher Should Be Able To Use

9 Digital Learning Tools Every 21st Century Teacher Should Be Able To Use | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"The 21st century is a time of rapid change, and while the brain may not be changing (much), the tools we use to feed it are.

This puts the 21st century teacher in a critical spot–of mastering constantly evolving technology and digital learning tools–the same tools their students use every day.

So below, we’ve started with 9 such tools, but this is obviously just scratching the surface. This list is not meant to be exhaustive (obviously), or even authoritative (but rather, subjective)."

Beth Dichter's insight:

Each tool listed is described and there is an explanation that discusses why a 21st century teacher should be able to use the tool. Tools include Evernote, RSS or Social Readers, Google+ Community, YouTube, iTunesU, Cloud-Based Word Processors, DropBox, Evernote, Pocket and Zotero.

Are there tools you think are necessary for teachers to master?

Public or Private? The Risks of Posting in Social Networks | Malware Blog | Trend Micro

Public or Private? The Risks of Posting in Social Networks | Malware Blog | Trend Micro | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it
Posting too much information could lead to undesirable consequences such as identity theft. Trend Micro found that 1 in 3 people know someone who became victims of identity theft.
Beth Dichter's insight:

How many social networks are you a member of? How often do you answer questions that request your date of birth, your school, your hometown...questions that may seem innocuous but may also be answers to security questions on other sites.

This infographic looks at the following social networks: Facebook, Twitter,  Google+, Mixi, Sina Weibo, Tumblr. Linkedin, and Pinterest. It will allow you  to see how each of these sites falls in the areas of: privacy settings, contact details, connections, birth date, employment, location and name.

It also provides information about the potential backlash of providing personal information including identity theft, social engineering, and damaged reputation as well as some statistical information.

To learn more about the risks of sharing information online check out this post, or go directly to the infographic at:

Roberto Ivan Ramirez's curator insight, July 16, 2013 7:38 PM

A Digital Summer Camp Hosted by Google+ for Kids 13 -18

A Digital Summer Camp Hosted by Google+ for Kids 13 -18 | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

Quoting from the Google Official Blog:
In the words of young maker Joey Hudy: “Don’t be bored. Make something.”

That’s the idea behind Maker Camp, a new online “summer camp” on Google+. Over the course of six weeks, 13- to 18-year-olds (as well as their parents and teachers) will have the opportunity to collaborate with popular maker personalities—including Mark Frauenfelder of Boing Boing, Stephen and Fritz of EepyBird (the Coke and Mentos guys), Jimmy DiResta (co-host of Dirty Money on the Discovery Channel) and Limor Fried (founder of Adafruit)—and other creative teens on fun projects themed around “the art of making.” Our goal is to encourage everyone this summer to make something and share it with their friends and family.
