Here is an up-to-date review of five tools that allow you to create infographics. Each tool is described. There is a list of pros and cons for each tool. All have free versions available, and some have more robust versions that cost additional money.

The five tools that are discussed are:

* Visme

* Canva

* Easel.ly

* Piktochart

* Infogr.am

Providing opportunities for students to create infographics allows them to create graphs, use a different style of writing, and have some fun while showing that they understand key concepts and ideas.

Yesterday I posted the top choices from the American Association of School LIbrarians (AASL) on the best apps for 2014. Today they listed the top websites in the following categories:

* Media Sharing

* Digital Stories

* Manage & Organize

* Social Networking & Communication

* Content Resources

* Curriculum Collaboration

As you review the websites you will find one or more standards that are addressed by the websites.

Although I know many of the websites, there are some that are new to me that I look forward to exploring. Below are several that I have used and really like, or are ones I have checked out and will be using in the future.

Are you looking for new tools and want ideas on how to use them as well as examples and links to learn more about the tool. Check out Remix-t, a site from the University of Notre Dame, that is chock full of great ideas and resources. Although this site is geared to college teachers the resources and examples will provide you with great ideas and you will be able to modify them for your classroom. You will find in under Content Resources.

Mixed Ink is a new site to me. It allows you to create a group of students who will write together. They may comment and evaluate the submissions and each students' writing will show up in a different color. This looks like a great site, esp. for schools that are not using Google apps.

Who better than Visual.ly to share 7 online tools that will help you create visual, be they simple images, infographics or a mind map. This post shares the following tools:

* Canva - a free tool

* Pixlr - a free tool

* PicMonkey - a free tool, but you may pay for additional tools

* Quozio - free tool

* Share As Image - a free tool, but will show a watermark; pay for no watermark

* Skitch - free through Evernote

* Coggle - free tool that allows you to create mind maps

Visuals are a key part of learning. These seven tools provide a range of options that you may want to use when designing materials for your classes (or perhaps students would find use for them in your class).

Canva was kind enough to take a great pdf file that Richard Bryne created on 10 Google Search Tips All Students Can Use and create an infographic. Since we know visuals are important to many learners, take the time to check this out and to share it with your students. Also remember that many search techniques that work with Google also work with other search engines.

Do you like trying new tools, specifically ones designed for presentations and publishing? This post, by Joyce Valenza, explores five tools that will provide a range of options for you to consider.

* Canva allows you to create slides, posters, flyers, presentations, business cards and more. With hundreds of fonts, one million images, photo editing, the ability to collaborate and more you may want to head over to Canva and create an account...and it is free!

* LucidPress comes from the same folks that created LucidChart, and it is free for educators (and your school can also get accounts for students). This is a robust a robust publishing tool that has been getting rave reviews...definitely worth checking out. If you have questions, check out their tutorials.

* emaze is a new tool out in beta. The website states that you can choose a template and quickly create a presentation. Feature include the ability to translate text, HTML5 (so it should run on any browser), and multi-device accessible.

*Haiku Deck was originally designed for the iPad but is now has a web based version. The folks who designed this were looking for an application that would allow them to create a "killer pitch deck" and when they could not find one they chose to create one...thus Haiku Deck.

* Powtoon Slides is due out later this week. Based on a sneak peek you will find lots of slide templates, infographic style that includes animated icons that you can use on graphs and charts, a photoshow style (with over 3 million royalty free photos available), and an animated style. This list does not include all features but it may make you want to head over to Powtoon and check it out!

Canva is in beta but their response for an account is usually done within 3 or 4 days. Create slides, flyers, posters, infographics and more and download them or link to the online graphic. You may upload your own images or use from their collection. This looks like a quick and easy way for you or your students to create media for classes or activities that take place in your school.
