Of course, we never said that was easy. Where do you find this content, anyway, especially given the information overload we opened with? Good news: We're here to help you prioritize the resources by outlining some of our favorites below.

To build and maintain a large social media platform, this is solid advice from a writer who maintains a huge platform for Guy Kawasaki and one for herself.

Answer these questions before you begin the work on your social strategy:

What need will you fill for the people who will follow you?Why should they follow you? What will you consistently provide to them?

Then read the rest of the article on how to implement your strategy.

How content curation will make you a content marketing champion - idio

How content curation will make you a content marketing champion - idio | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

Content curation is a tremendous opportunity for brands to provide a useful and ever-engaging service for time-poor consumers who are eager to learn, research and be entertained.

When it comes to content, consumers both enjoy and suffer from a plurality of choice.

With something like 2 million new articles published to the web each day, the options can be paralysing for consumers. By curating content from various sources and bringing them together in a branded hub, brands can distill the digital ‘wheat from the chaff’, so that consumers don’t have to....

Startup Medium Raises $50M & Read Time App "Readism" May Be Why

Startup Medium Raises $50M & Read Time App "Readism" May Be Why | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

Medium's Read Time App and Scoop.it's Lean Content
This Curagami post shares KUDOS for Guillaume Decugis and the @scoopit team. Medium's making their read time app, somethg they call Readism, available across the web is sure to hasten every prediction Guilluame and company made about lean content marketing several years ago.

Medium's new "app" is a Chrome extension. If you are creating content and NOT using it  you're nuts. We decided to make two posts instead of one when we saw six minute read time on our lean content + tools riff.

We wanted to add a few tools to Scoop.it's Why Lean Content Is The Future of Content Marketingpost. We wanted to add:

  • Haiku Deck (like more than Slideshare)
  • Feedly Pro (so you have a site)

But their side did say "many more", so we will save our 1,000 word six minute read content curation tools post for tomorrow. In the meantime, if you're not using Medium's read time app Readism and you use content to market online you're nuts.

This Brand Blog Grew to 50 Million Monthly Readers in Just 10 Months. Here’s How

This Brand Blog Grew to 50 Million Monthly Readers in Just 10 Months. Here’s How | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

I'm just quoting an extract from Natalie Burg's article:

Of those 100 or so fully composed daily stories, only about 15 will make it to the blog. The curators gnaw the contender list down by testing each with unpublished paid posts on Facebook. Rather than simply posting a link to their audience, PetFlow pays to distribute them to a certain segment of Facebook users who aren’t fans. If a post meets a certain criteria—a classified combo of likes, clicks, shares, or comments—it graduates to the blog and is shared with the PetFlow Facebook pack.

A fascinating look at the Upworthy-like curation system!

7 Qualities of Highly Effective Content Curators

7 Qualities of Highly Effective Content Curators | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it
Every time I visit the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, I see something I’ve never seen before. In fact, t’s considered the most influential museum of modern art in the world. With that in mind, meet Klaus Biesenbach. Klaus holds the title “Chief Curator at Large” at MoMA. If you’ve visited the MoMA and walked away impressed (like I have), Klaus has a lot to do with that.

As content curators, we should all aspire to be like Klaus. After all, wouldn’t it be great if our content collections drew as much interest, respect and admiration as the collections at MoMA? In order to achieve this feat, we need to become highly effective content curators. In other words, we need to curate Internet content as we would fine art.

Let’s consider seven habits of content creation that would make Klaus Biesenbach proud. Continue reading →

Content Curation & SEO: A Bad Match? - Search Engine Watch | #TheMarketingAutomationAlert

Key excerpt...

[Cutts] also talks about including access to information that isn't otherwise generally available. Here are some ideas on how you can make it quite different:

  1. Recognized Expert Analysis: In addition to producing the list of resources, add commentary and analysis from recognized experts and cement that with rel=author tagging. This is where the "editorial voice" and "distinctive point of view" come in.
  2. Unique Expert Reviews: Include expert reviews and commentary on the curated content. The key here: these reviews aren't published elsewhere. Rel=author tagging is a good idea here, too.
  3. Data Sources: Accessing data sources not available to Google is also useful. Bear in mind, though: it's critical that these data sources be very distinct and differentiated in a way that will be immediately obvious to both users and Google.
  4. Freshness: If you have a method for updating this in real time, and significantly faster than Google does, this may work as well. Note: a regurgitated news feed fails this test.

Via Marteq
Marteq's curator insight, August 26, 2013 11:50 AM

Content curation does NOT hurt your SERP, but it won't help either UNLESS you add value. Plain 'ol RSS feeds into your site add nothing, however, if you are putting effort into finding the right content, then adding intelligent commentary, then tag it with the rel=author (to add to your Google Authorship ranking).

Add value, and you'll be fine!
