Like it or not, Google+, is here to stay. Even if you've roundly ignored the plaform in your personal social media life, you can't afford to do the same with your company. Cultivating an active, well-trafficked page takes time and effort, but the advantages it brings are well worth the investment.

A Personal Reflection On Google+ | TechCrunch

A Personal Reflection On Google+ | TechCrunch | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

I joined Google the day after my Stanford graduation in June of 2011, and two days later got to take a peek at the product I would be working on for the next three months...

The news yesterday that Vic Gundotra, Google’s Senior Vice President of Social, is leaving comes as little surprise. I read about it on Facebook first, then on Twitter, then on Secret, and then on Google+, which perhaps says everything about the success of Google’s most recent foray into social. Google+’s momentmay have passed, but the lessons to be learned will last a lifetime for me, and for the hundreds of others who played a role in building it.

The Coming Death of GoogleToday, it can be hard to imagine that Google faced a deep existential threat to its business three years ago. The company’s financials were as strong as always, but there was a growing cacophony among bloggers and the wider media over the future of the company in the throes of an industry rapidly changing due to social, local and mobile. Google was still primarily a web-based company, the bulk of its revenues derived from advertising that had failed to deeply penetrate any of these three nascent verticals....

How Google Plus Profiles & Pages Gain Search Authority

How Google Plus Profiles & Pages Gain Search Authority | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

Increasing Visibility & Influence In Google Search

That means that anyone who wants to make use of Google+ as part of an overall strategy of increasing visibility and influence in Google Search should be actively pursuing all of the following tactics:

- Build a strong network within Google+. You should seek to cultivate not just a large number of followers, but more importantly, active relationships and partnerships with influential Google+ users. Their citations to your profile have a powerful effect on its authority to Google.

 - Cultivate quality links from trusted websites. Create the kind of presence on Google+ that site owners want to recommend and link to. When being interviewed or referenced by a site, ask if they would link to your Google+ profile or page for identity purposes.

 - Use Google Authorship for your content across the Web. Although this tip applies only to personal profiles, since Google Authorship involves a legitimate, Google-approved link to our profile, the more quality content you produce on trusted sites, the more authority given to your profile.

Google Is Reportedly Set To Carve Up Its Failed Social Network Google+ | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

Google may kill its social network, Google+, following Vic Gundotra's departure.Google is reportedly planning to dismantle its social network, Google+. Google will consider Google+ a platform rather than a product, TechCrunch reports, citing "multiple sources.

"This means that it will no longer exist as a social network aimed at competing with Facebook, but it still might be integrated into Google's existing products. The company has allegedly been shifting the teams that used to be at "the core" of Google+ and is moving more talent toward the Android team....

I must admit that I'm one of those people who was kind of irritated when I started to hear that Google+ was ANOTHER social network I had to worry about.  As if Facebook wasn't enough pain-in-the-ass.  However, I will admit also that any property that Google has is probably going to be impossible to ignore simply because they clearly are going to give it preferential treatment (just like Blogger).

How to Improve SEO with Google Authorship - TechWyse | #TheMarketingTechAlert

How to Improve SEO with Google Authorship - TechWyse | #TheMarketingTechAlert | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it
Has your brand taken advantage of the Google Authorship program yet? If not, you're missing out on a powerful way to increase your visibility, establish yourself as an authority, and get some special treatment with Google as a bonus.

Advanced/ Digest...

1. Rich snippets are eye-catching.

Rich snippets make your content stand out on a search results page, and visibility leads to clicks.

2. Click-throughs are increased.

As we just said, greater visibility does help boost click-through rates, but it’s not just pure visibility that gets those clicks. It’s the sense of trust that readers feel by seeing a name and a face attached to content.

3. Your brand gains instant credibility.

When you have a headshot right next to your search results listing, your company immediately stands out from all the other faceless entities.

4. Your content gets indexed faster.

If your content is of a timely nature, getting it indexed quickly is critical. Google Authorship gives priority to content that’s linked to a Google+ profile, giving it a significant advantage in the race to the top of the search results page.

5. Google Authorship levels the playing field.

When Google Authorship is in the mix, it doesn’t matter as much exactly where your content ranks on the search results page. Being 6th or 7th on the list isn’t as big of an issue when your content comes in the form of an eye-catching rich snippet.
