For Women's History Month find primary and secondary resources to share with middle grades students. The National Women’s History Museum is keeping up with both the Suffrage Centennial Celebration and the change in combat status for women. The museum hosts a promotional video featuring girls speaking as women who affected history which could serve as an introduction to Women’s History Month.

Maree Whiteley's insight:

Infoplease offers a list of dates when countries allowed women’s suffrage, and History.com provides videos, photo galleries and essays on women’s history and achievements in several fields. TimeForKids from Time Magazine  and Education World

Women's Suffrage Photographs | Teachinghistory.org

Women's Suffrage Photographs | Teachinghistory.org | Doing History | Scoop.it

How did the women's suffrage movement use the rise of journalism to its advantage? TJ Boisseau introduces photographs that show how suffragists staged protests with the press in mind. The photographs also reveal suffragists' debt to techniques used by striking women workers, the influence of new young leaders, and the racism that plagued the suffrage movement (and society at large).

Maree Whiteley's insight:

A great resource for Women's History Month...What we have here are many photos of women publicly demonstrating. There are probably 200 articles about women demonstrating in public between 1900, 1910 and 1915. That's a good chunk, and a lot for historians to draw on.

History in the News - The Historical Association

History in the News - The Historical Association | Doing History | Scoop.it

News from the UK Historical Association "The Draft National Curriculum has been released. The response to it has been slow - most subjects got the slimmed down curriculum they asked for - not history. History got a curriculum three pages longer than most of the other subjects with a prescriptive list of things to be taught....

Maree Whiteley's insight:

Interesting to read feedback from the History teaching community in the UK...

Thinking Visually as Historians: Incorporating Visual Method

Thinking Visually as Historians: Incorporating Visual Method | Doing History | Scoop.it

When students encounter images, they often offer incomplete readings, demonstrating difficulty integrating their insightful visual readings with contextual historical understanding. When asked to "look" and "react" to images, they frame responses that open and close with immediate reactions..... paying attention to the intermediate steps they took on their way to understanding historical problems and mastering the use of sources. Analyzing their work has helped me develop a strategy that pushes students to see historical context, connection, and complexity as they develop interpretative strategies for visual sources...David Jaffee

Womens History Month- Australia 2013 | Doing History | Scoop.it
Women's History Month 2013

As the 20th Century dawned and the Australian nation was born, Australian women led in democratic reform, making the new nation among the first where women had the same rights as men to vote and to stand for public office.

The theme for the next Women’s History Month Australia is Finding Founding Mothers, identifying women involved in shaping Federation and the Australian Constitution in 1901.These women, whose work helped turn colonies into states and create our nation, will be the stars of Women’s History Month Australia in March 2013.
