The thinking of academic community is moving fast in the direction that we envision. We expect that, in not too distant future, researchers will post their papers in a web-repository like arxiv.org, write a blog post or two describing it in simple language, and then tweet a small link to those familiar with his work. Also, they will continue to write their daily or weekly thoughts in a blog, so that the paper ‘published’ in arxiv.org will be more like stringing together of many blog posts than all new discoveries. We have not seen any academic researcher go that far yet (except one or two), but a post in Rafael Irizarry’s blog shows that people are starting to think that way. Via MyScienceWork

Nos presentan Bloxp (www.bloxp.com) como una nueva aplicación que podemos usar para transformar blogs en libros electrónicos. Solo tenemos que informar la dirección url del feed del blog (wwwhatsnew.com/feed, por ejemplo), y seleccionar las opciones relacionadas con el formato del resultado (como poner los enlaces en forma de notas al pié de cada página o añadir un índice). Después de analizar el contenido del sitio web deseado, Bloxp generará un archivo ePub o Mobi listo para ser almacenado y consultado en nuestro lector de ebooks habitual. Además de exportar el texto y los enlaces, Bloxp también obtiene las imágenes originales, alterando su tamaño cuando sea necesario para obtener un formato lo más equilibrado posible. Podemos usar la herramienta también para escribir nuestro nuevo libro en WordPress y obtener el resultado en ePub, permitiendo de esta forma usar una de las más flexibles plataformas de publicación de contenido existentes hoy en día en Internet.
