Today, Luca Maria Aiello at Yahoo Labs in Barcelona, Spain, and a couple of pals, change that. They tease apart the nature of the links that form on social networks and say these atoms fall into three different categories. They also show how to extract this information automatically and then characterize the relationships according to the combination of atoms that exist between individuals. Their ultimate goal: to turn anthropology into a full-blooded subdiscipline of computer science.

Aiello and co used two data sets from a pair of large social networks. The first consists of over 1 million messages sent between 500,000 pairs of users of the aNobii social network, which people use to talk about books they have read. The second is a set of 100,000 anonymized user pairs who commented on each other’s photos on Flickr, sending around 2 million messages in total.

The team analyzes these messages based on the type of information they convey, which they divide into three groups. The first type of information is related to social status; messages displaying appreciation or announcing the creation of the social tie such as a follow or like. For example, a user might say a photograph is “an excellent shot” or say they’ve followed somebody or acknowledged attention they’ve got by thanking them for visiting a site.

Alex Pentland would call this Social Physics.

This looks like a good model for future oriented teaching roles.

Influencers on social media are either passionate individuals who turn out to be specialists or professionals involved who use Web 2.0 tools as part of their work. They take advantage of their presence on social networks for personal gain or as representative (or ambassador) a brand, company or organization.

When you hear the word "addicted", normally the first thing that comes to mind is drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes, what about the internet? I found it extremely interesting that there is actually a classified disorder in today’s age, Internet Addiction Disorder. What if you go out to dinner, and you are sitting at the table for just to long, have you ever gotten a craving to just go check social media? It appears to me that social media is chemically changing our brains around. An interesting route to go might be quitting the Internet “cold turkey”, if it works for other addictions, why not try it for this. Seeing how the dopamine, and other chemicals are really reacting inside our brain could be beneficial to determining a solution to this up and coming problem. It seems as if our changing society has lead to such problems, maybe these are some of the repercussions we must face with our advancing technological state. 

The new learning experiences

If you can do it with paper why use a digital alternative? Because for some of students, it makes the difference between engagement and being switched off.  Of couse finding the activities that you just can't do with paper...that's the real power of a digital solution.

Don't be afraid of social media when you can learn how to use it in your classroom.  This reasource is a great find for educators that may want to use social media but just do not know where to incorporate it.

Dentro de OpenTopic puedes crear uno o más cuadros de mando "Topic". esencialmente muestra las páginas que donde se agregan nuevos contenidos y el contenido entrante de las fuentes que se especifiquen. Puedes saltar de un panel a otro topic con el clic de su ratón.

Para curar historias simplemente tienes que seleccionar los que son relevantes para tu público y se les proporciona un módulo de edición para modificar y personalizar el contenido de la historia. En este punto también se puede seleccionar en los (canales) que la historia será publicada y se puede personalizar la historia de manera diferente para cada uno de ellos.

Incluso hay una opción que te permite configurar algún tipo de curación automática, dándole la opción de establecer un conjunto de reglas sencillas, que cuando coincide, dará lugar a la publicación de una noticia.

OpenTopic te permite conectar a un mayor número de canales posibles, por lo que es fácil enviar de un lugar a tu sitio web, RSS, redes sociales y newsletter.

Por último, pero no menos importante, OpenTopic integra un servicio de análisis completo, capaz de informar y dar a conocer los resultados de su trabajo de curación a través de historias y canales de distribución.

Mi comentario: Excelente herramienta para redes sociales y community managers, así como especialistas de marketing web que necesitan el soporte eficaz para descubrir noticias relevantes sobre un tema y la publicación fácil de diferentes canales de una plataforma centralizada. Fácil de usar.

Hay mucha gente usando Facebook... Hay mucha gente aprovechando las ventajas del e-learning... ¿Por qué no juntar las dos cosas?

G+ is catching up big time for many reasons.  Among these reasons is the Hangout integration.  

We just facilitated a remote 1.5 day leadership development session with Hangouts and it was fantastic.  

Google is sticking to their strategy and their value is starting to win people over.  I was never a fan and, through valuable features, I am changing my perspective on the suite of offerings.
