In addition to using Lego for maths, I've taken my sons (extensive) Lego collection into History and Society & Culture to have the students (high school) demonstrate their understanding of concepts such as globalisation, communism, nationalism, capitalism. Worked really well and classes sooo happy.
Having been broken up into groups and given a concept each, They created cities or environments demonstrating the concept then talked the rest of the class through.

Until the emergence of “Big Data”, data were mainly treated locally in warehouses of several structured databases. Gradually, these data sources became diversified. Analysts are projecting the future of customer data. Several points of attention are highlighted. While most companies collect, store and analyze data, majority of them are struggling with their big project data and are struggling to meet IT challenges associated with the use of this framework.
Newscientis, with Microsoft, released an infographic on how big data techniques seek to gain insight by analyzing large data sets. The proliferation of sources associated with 3V (volume, variety, velocity) have contributed to big data’s recent growth. Data is coming in a growing variety of new and often unstructured forms such as text, video and sensor reading. By 2020, all the digital data created, replicated and consumed per year will reach 40,000 Exabytes. The connected devices including pocket calculators, personnel computer, mobile phones, servers and mainframes and videogame consoles have contributed more than 10 million instructions per second. I think this article is awesome because they use data visualization to show what people share the most, visit the most, and search the most. Data is everywhere and people are using it everyday and sometimes don't even think about it.

One of the biggest mistakes I hear about is that people signup to be on a social media site and then they don't complete their profile which reduces their effectiveness. Yes- it's important to fully complete your profile.

The world is extremely diverse in its spread of native languages. Yet only a handful are commonly spoken by the majority of the world, about 2/3. Over half of the world's languages are expected to go extinct because of the extreme diversity and the minimal distribution which means that in some places almost every person speaks a completely different language and many are dying as their last speakers do not pass it on to their children.
This article is relates to cultural patterns and processes through the geographic spread of languages around the globe and the increasing acculturation that causes the loss of many of these languages in our increasingly globalized world.
Its interesting to see just how many people speak the languages we speak everyday, and to see just how many people DONT speak it.
It is amazing to see all main languages in perspective to the world. Mandarine holding the top spot with 1.39 Billion surprises me but at the same time doesn't. There are 1.3 billion people living there in the first place.
