Storyboard your ideas

Storyboard your ideas | Devops for Growth | Scoop.it
Turn your ideas and goals into something visual using the TFS Storypoint add-in to PowerPoint
Mickael Ruau's insight:

With storyboarding, you turn your ideas and goals into something visual. Your ideas are easier for other people to understand, so they can give you constructive feedback, sooner. You can bring your ideas to life with storyboard shapes, text, animation, and all the other features that PowerPoint Storyboarding provides.+

Use storyboard shapes and PowerPoint features

  1. If you're interfacing with TFS 2017 or VSTS, you must have Office PowerPoint 2010 or later version installed. For version compatibility, see Requirements and compatibility, Office. If you're interfacing with TFS 2013 or TFS 2015, you must have Office PowerPoint 2007 or later version installed.

  2. If you haven't installed a version of Visual Studio (2013 or later) or the Team Foundation Server Standalone Office Integration 2015 (free), you'll need to install one of these versions to create and modify storyboards.

Storyboard shapes extensions being deprecated from Visual Studio Marketplace – Microsoft DevOps Blogs

Starting today Visual Studio extensions are now being served from the Visual Studio Marketplace. Nearly all 10,000 + private and public Visual Studio extensions have been migrated to the Visual Studio Marketplace. As part of this change we are deprecating the Storyboard Shapes extensions which were for Microsoft PowerPoint.

Mickael Ruau's insight:

Note that these links will stop working at a future date. We will publish an updated blog post with the sunset strategy soon.

Paper Prototyping: The 10-Minute Practical Guide

Paper Prototyping: The 10-Minute Practical Guide | Devops for Growth | Scoop.it
Know when, how, and why you should paper prototype. Tips, templates, and resources included.
Mickael Ruau's insight:

Testing & Presenting Paper Prototypes

When it comes time to show your paper prototypes to other people — whether stakeholders or testers — things get tricky. Because so much is dependent on the user’s imagination, you need to set the right context.

  • Designate one person as play the “computer” — A common mistake is to have the presenter also control the prototype screens, but the role of the “computer” requires full attention. To best simulate an automated system, one person’s only job should be switching the screens according to the user’s action.
  • Rehearse — The role of the computer is not as easy as you might think. Rehearse beforehand to iron out the kinks and prepare the “computer” for a live performance.
  • Follow standard usability test best practices — Tips like using a minimum of 5 users and recording the tests still apply. For advice on usability testing in general, read the free Guide to Usability Testing.
  • Guide the feedback. When showing someone a paper prototype, prime them by explaining the context of the design. What did you design? What have you left out for later? What elements of the design are you looking for input specifically? Generally, you’ll want to explain that structure and flow are where the person should focus.

Storyboarding Apps in PowerPoint - CodeProject

If you have Visual Studio installed, you’ll probably have the Storyboarding add-in as well. You can find it on the ribbon inside PowerPoint, or you can start PowerPoint Storyboard directly from the start menu.

Once PowerPoint is started, it’ll show you the Storyboard shapes panel. This panel contains a whole lot of shapes you can use creating your storyboards or sketches. Not only can this be used for Windows Phone applications, but shapes for Windows Store apps, websites and Windows desktop applications are also included.

The default list of shapes contain most of the common used controls and parts of applications like textboxes and buttons. It also contains more complex controls like maps.

If you need more shapes, or would like to create storyboards for other applications like IPhone apps or just would like a sketchy style, you can download more shapes at the Visual Studio gallery.

Storyboarding is a mechanism to conceptualize and get feedback on a design during the development of your application.
Mickael Ruau's insight:

With PowerPoint storyboarding you can definitely illustrate a new enhancement or a modified interface very easily with the help of a huge collection of predefined storyboard shapes. Also, you can customize the shapes and create your own set of storyboard shapes for situations where you need to use a lot of branding in the storyboard you design. Finally, by linking the storyboard with the work item, you are automatically sharing it with the team.
