Page Templates - Atlassian Documentation

Page Templates - Atlassian Documentation | Devops for Growth | Scoop.it
When you add a new page, you don't have to start from scratch. Instead, you can base your new page on a template – a Confluence page with predefined content. Some templates are provided by blueprints or Marketplace apps, and you can even create your own templates.

Some examples of useful templates are:

The meeting notes template will help you and your team collaborate on notes and follow-up tasks
The requirements template allows you to capture your software/hardware product requirements, and create related Jira issues from the page

Global templates and space templates

In Confluence, there are two categories of page templates:

Space templates: These page templates are available in a specific space only. If you have space administrator permission, you can define templates via the space administration screen.
Global templates: These page templates are available in every space on your site. If you have Confluence Administrator permission, you can define global templates via the Confluence Administration Console.

If you're a system administrator, you can also download predefined templates.

Use a Confluence labels system to keep content under control

Use a Confluence labels system to keep content under control | Devops for Growth | Scoop.it
3 things to keep in mind about Confluence labels:

Confluence labels are case-sensitive. ‘Content’ and ‘content’ will be 2 different labels in Confluence, so if you decide to use lower-cases in your instance, make sure everybody knows.
Take note of regional spelling differences. This is particularly relevant when you have distributed teams across the world. For example, what we in the UK would spell ‘programme’ would be ‘program’ across the pond.
Have a policy for compound words. Confluence only supports single word labels, so if you need to create compound words you will need to decide on how to separate them. If you go with hyphens, stick to hyphens; otherwise, ‘app_team’ and app-team’ will be 2 different labels.

Using Confluence templates and blueprints to better structure your instance

Using Confluence templates and blueprints to better structure your instance | Devops for Growth | Scoop.it

In the first article of this series dedicated to Confluence Admins working remotely, we looked at Using a Confluence Labels System to Keep Content Under Control. In this post, we’ll look at a few ways to create better structure on your pages and spaces using templates and blueprints.
Confluence blueprints and templates - what are the differences?

Having pages in as many different styles, formats and locations makes it difficult for users to find and digest content. One way to help content creators keep a consistent style when adding new pages is by making good use of Confluence’s premade page templates and blueprints – Confluence pages with predefined content.

When your users add a new page, they won't have to start from scratch. Instead, they will base their new page on a template or a blueprint. Templates are simply generic pages with pre-populated content, covering most scenarios - from HR Reporting to Product Requirements.

basic project plan template

Basic project plan template

A Confluence blueprint is a template with added functionality. Blueprint pages can offer more customisation and are automatically indexed for easy access and page overviews. When you’re using them, pages created from templates and pages created from blueprints are practically identical, which can create a bit of confusion on what the differences are exactly.

The main thing to remember is that, when adding blueprints to your instance, some development effort will be required, while template pages are faster to create and require no development effort.
Mickael Ruau's insight:

Confluence Page Blueprint

Confluence Page Template

Title can be dynamically populated (e.g. including dates in minutes page)

Title is Blank

Content can be pre-populated dynamically in the page via already-included macros

No pre-written/designed content and no end user macros in the standard templates - but they can be added easily.

Blueprint pages are automatically indexed into a list

No automatic indexing
