ASDI is a research-intensive initiative. While ASDI can offer clients an integrated and collaborative approach to an identified need, it can also put clients in contact with individual highly qualified experts in a particular field. Research projects can be shaped to suit individual client needs and budgets.

The range of research capability in sustainable development at Curtin is extensive. From molecular and isotopic analysis to help locate untapped petroleum deposits, to world-first genome sequencing of prevalent wheat crop diseases in Western Australia, to vital geological analysis and water storage techniques for using Perth's aquifers to secure water supply, to planning the sustainable development of the growing number of super-towns across Australia, Curtin researchers work across a broad spectrum of areas that directly change the lives of people and communities in Western Australia, the nation and the region.

The National Science Foundation and NBC Learn explore the threats and challenges to our most vital natural resource.

Kim Flintoff's insight:

Curtin Teaching and Learning - Australian organisers of Eco Challenge 2.0 | Curtin Global Challenges Teaching Resources | Scoop.it

Curtin University is proud to announce that it is the Australian organiser for participation in the 2014 UNEP-DHI Eco Challenge 2.0.

Water is essential for all life as we know it. A simple fact that sometimes feels forgotten as political and commercial interests take priority.

UNEP-DHI Eco Challenge 2.0 provides an exciting and authentic learning experience for students aged 11-17 through the online strategic game "Aqua Republica". Addressing national curriculum priority dimensions of Sustainability and Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia the experience provides many learning opportunities across Social Studies, Science, Humanities, Health and Physical Education, English, Geography, and more.

Aboriginal water values and management in northern Australia - YouTube

As part of the Tropical Rivers and Coastal Knowledge (TRaCK) research program, we documented and quantified Aboriginal social and economic values of aquatic resources and identified their flow links in the first study of its kind in Australia. The research was conducted over three years (2008-2010) in two tropical river catchments—the Daly River in the Northern Territory and the Fitzroy River in Western Australia—where water planners needed information on Aboriginal people's water requirements.

Narrated by traditional owner, Patricia Marrfurra McTaggart, this video focuses on the research conducted in the Daly River catchment.

Kim Flintoff's insight:

Different ways of understanding water management might be the solution to the global water crisis.  Studemts agae 11-17 can play Eco Challenge and test their understanding.
