The Bizarre Story Behind ‘Control’s’ Reality-Breaking Oldest House (Watch) – via Variety   | Must Play | Scoop.it
"Control," Remedy's upcoming, weird-fiction video game due out on console and PC next year, takes place in a single office building in downtown Manhattan, but inside that headquarter of Control are myriad realities, worlds, universes waiting to be explored.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

All the mysteries of the world are contained in a single office building in Manhattan without a doubt. Finally someone has made a video game to that effect.

Cara Ellison: US writer Jenn Frank is curating a competition, challenging entrants to write a game about breasts (RT @jemimakiss: Guardian Tech >> Boobjam – politics of breasts in video games: http://t.co/6F5VSpx952)...
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

This is an interesting artcle. Stick with it as it delves into the sociology of being a woman in the world today. The concept seems simple - create a video game about breasts. Turns out not so much.

Hemp Tycoon Is Brilliant, Instructive, Addictive Fun

Hemp Tycoon Is Brilliant, Instructive, Addictive Fun | Must Play | Scoop.it
Grow your attic-based hemp operation into an island empire in this long-form farming simulation. Say it's not addictive all you want. We both know it is.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Addictive As What You Grow (lol)
Hemp Tycoon is additive, simple and fun. The game's goal is to grow hemp. Growing in the backyard is the most fun. You select seeds with yields and can put more of your backyard under the plow as you earn cash.

My strategy was to keep turning the cheap seeds fast, the more expensive seeds take longer to grow, and put as much of the backyard into production as possible as fast as possible. There is a soft reggae track that adds to the addiction.

All Gaming Basics Here
You can see all the elements of graet games here including;
* Simple game construct (grow hemp).

* Simple game rules (you need money to buy seeds, seeds make hemp).

* Each game moment is reinforcing and rewarding.

Understand Hemp Tycoon's basic construct and you understand everything you need to know about games. Reinforcement leads to more reinforcement and more game play. Brilliant.

Mindless fun, but economics and reminded me of a piece I wrote about learning capitalism from my favorite dope dealer:

GameStop President Tony Bartel Says Digital Only Not So Much at E3

GameStop President Tony Bartel Believes Used Games Playback Will Play Key role going forward in the video game business ...
Forbes
GameStop President Tony Bartel was one of the 48,200 attendees who made the annual pilgrimage to E3 2013 in Los Angeles this week.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Interesting revolution going on in video games. Gamers want the ability to play older games, to own their games, trade their games. The video game industry faces a tipping point similar to music.

Music abandoned the physical thing, the hard good, for iTunes and that was a mistake. There is something about the physical thing that makes a product have presence. Digital "things" may be easier to move but they don't have the same "top of mind" presence created by walking by them or seeing them on the shelf.

I'm selling my albums in the Story of Cancer Store (http://storyofcancer.gostorego.com/ ) and those physical things hold memories of friends, places and time that digital copies will never create. The game industry was just taught a valuable lesson in THINGNESS.

Battle Cats Is an Addicting Video Game

Battle Cats Is an Addicting Video Game | Must Play | Scoop.it
Battle Cats - Addicting Games http://t.co/nD8pRyv2lO
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Battle Cats Rule The World
This game sounds just strange enough to be fun. From a Japanese game developer and capable of creating and unlocking strange characters cats are truly taking over the world.

The other day I was thinking, as I scooped my Bengal's poop, that if an alien observed what I was working so hard on they would think I was the slave and my cat Lucian is in charge. And they would be RIGHT (lol).
