The Game Is The Thing
Great insight here matching my friend @RDansky's feedback. I understand the idea - the more complete the ecosystem the better the game, the more engagement.
I think there is a distinct difference between #gamification and game based learning. Gamification rides on the surface more. As marketers we want to create systems that reward behaviors we want.
We are Pavlov and Internet marketing isn't a laboratory (despite it feeling that way often). The irony of sounding like Pavlov is the real operant conditioning is happening TO US.
We become conditioned by the Stimulus - Response dance we play with our customers. I employ game mechanics NOT games in our Internet marketing.
Game mechanics are a sophisticated Google Analytics. Game mechanics create a more rapid-fire feedback loop and so clarify the "fog of war". When engagement goes up 9 times out of 10 do conversions.
