Corruption is a concern after any major natural disaster, as millions of dollars in cash and goods rush in from around the world. But those worries are especially acute in the Philippines, where graft has been a part of life for decades.
PIRatE Lab's insight:

We are again seeing the consequences of corruption, lack of transparency and good government in the wake of a natural diaster.

 

While these are real concerns, our experiences from Katrina and beyond show that the harm from not sending resrouces is often greater than the issues realted to making sure no one steals, etc. anything.
