This USGS (Rosecrans et al. 2020) study released as a pre-print presented the first data collected as part of our new state-mandated Regional Monitoring Plan for groundwater quality in areas adjacent to oil and gas production. The authors present the results of ground water collected from 14 wells in and around the highest concentration of active drilling efforts in the Oxnard plain. While five wells showed elevated human-induced hydrocarbons proximate to intense drilling efforts, the data in aggregate showed no significant large-scale ground water contamination from oil and gas production across the area. We need more data to nail this down, but this is positive news and suggests we aren’t dealing with large-scale water contamination in this heavily-exploited area.

This will be a sight to see, hopefully that area will get the protection it needs to turn back to what it used to be. Could be great for creating more native habitat.

I am hoping that the company does not choose the cheap way to do this as opposed to the right way. With the company putting money into the trust, I hope the City of Oxnard keeps a close eye on their regulation for demolition.

Glad to see that they followed through with Coastal clean-up day this year as many "cleaning" based volunteer activities have been cancelled. The influx of crows has brought an enormous amount of litter to our beaches and the local waterways and are due for their yearly deep clean.

• City of Ventura: Parks, beach and pier closed. • Oxnard: Parks and beaches, including Ormond and Mandalay, temporarily closed this weekend. • Port Hueneme: Hueneme Beach, the pier and beach parking lots are closed. • County of Ventura: Parks and campgrounds, as well as it beachside RV parking areas, are closed. County trails are open. • Channel Islands Harbor: Parks and parking lots are closed; a temporary closure for beaches, including Hollywood, Silver Strand and Kiddie, over the weekend. • Ventura Harbor beaches, the public launch ramp and beach parking lots are closed. Parking along Spinnaker Drive also was expected to be prohibited. • California State Parks: All beaches and trailheads closed in Ventura County. The list includes Emma Wood, San Buenaventura State Beach, Mandalay, Mugu Beach, Chumash Trail, La Jolla Canyon, Sycamore Canyon, Sycamore Cove, County Line.
