The KATRINA@10 Conference will provide an overview of the impacts and consequences of Hurricane Katrina on the affected area and populations. It will be held on Thursday Aug 27, 2015, from 8:30 am until 6:30 PM at the Diboll Auditorium and Gallery, located on the ground floor of Tulane University's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, 1440 Canal Street, New Orleans.
The conference capitalizes on two sets of research projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NIH-funded team lead the "Health and Demographic Disparities in Recovery from Hurricane Katrina" Program. This team will present in the morning session an overview of key results from an integrated set of studies that include three Katrina cohorts and two analyses of data that are representative of the affected area at the time Katrina occurred. Plans for future work will also be presented. The NSF-funded team lead the "Diversity and Disease in a Post-Trauma Urban Landscape" Study. This team will present in the afternoon session an overview of key results from an integrated set of studies examining trade-offs between ecological and socioeconomic recovery, with the intent to improve understanding of how disease risk reflects ecological changes brought on by response efforts and reconstruction following catastrophic events.
Both the morning and afternoon sessions will feature a Reaction Panel of nationally-acclaimed disaster experts who will lead a discussion of the policy implications of the findings.
There will be about 100 seats open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
