'Zero plastic' organic foods retailer introduces disposable gloves for customers as Covid-19 prevention measure | News

'Zero plastic' organic foods retailer introduces disposable gloves for customers as Covid-19 prevention measure | News | Coastal Restoration | Scoop.it
A high-end organic foods retailer promoted as “plastic-free shopping” has mandated disposable plastic gloves for customers in its stores in Singapore as a coronavirus prevention measure.

Before entering its stores, customers of Scoop Wholefoods must register using a QR code and then don a pair of single-use plastic gloves. The Australian chain says the gloves are an additional hygiene measure for customers, which use scoops to take dried food from self-service bins in the store.

Individual countries realize the need to increase environmental health as the economy reopens.  A food retailer is helping on a smaller scale by introducing disposable gloves. These will cause less or no harm to the environment if people decide to throw them in the street as opposed to disposing of them properly.

Beatings, Mutiny, Indifference in Taiwan's Seafood Industry

Beatings, Mutiny, Indifference in Taiwan's Seafood Industry | Coastal Restoration | Scoop.it
"Conducted over the course of more than a year, our investigations show that Taiwan’s fishery supply chain is still tainted by human rights abuses, despite the law change in early 2017 to protect migrant fishers on Taiwanese vessels,” said Yi Chiao Lee, Global Investigation Lead for the report Misery at Sea.

EcoVadis's curator insight, May 28, 2018 4:21 AM

It's sad to see that despite law enforcement, we are still witnessing exploitation in the fishery supply chain.

One of the difficulties for seafood buyers is the opaque nature of global supply chains, exacerbated by rampant corruption and bribery in countries where vast amounts of seafood are sourced.
