This is a really interesting overview of how salmon farming works and its impact on the environment. Forcing the movement of fisheries inland could help prevent the interactions between wild and farm raised although its increased carbon footprint brings up the energy issue. The genetically modified salmon presented towards the end of the article were said to follow this inland farming technique. So I am wondering whether the cost difference allows them to do this more efficiently or if they are facing the same problems as other farm fisheries would face.
