'Run The Oil Industry In Reverse': Fighting Climate Change By Farming Kelp
Ashley Hollett's insight:
With fish populations declining a company is trying to capture CO2 and essentially trap it in kelp that will sink to the bottom of the ocean.

This is such a beautiful and simple idea. I just wonder if a majority if the kelp will sink or float around and end up on our beaches. Another question I had was that the kelp might not have enough time to be buried by sediment and therefore just delay the eventual release of carbon dioxide from the kelp. This action has to be incredibly widespread around the coasts and it does have unintended consequences. Im excited to see the future of this endeavor.

One area Nancy Caruso would like to focus on is off Thousand Steps Beach in Laguna Beach where kelp typically grows giving a home to marine life.

This is a great article Steve! When I was at Leo Cabrillo last spring there was a lot of sargassum washed up on the shore and it was my first time learning about it. I hope her project gets approved!
