Deep-Sea Mining: How to Balance Need for Metals with Ecological Impacts

Deep-Sea Mining: How to Balance Need for Metals with Ecological Impacts | Coastal Restoration | Scoop.it
Scientific American is the essential guide to the most awe-inspiring advances in science and technology, explaining how they change our understanding of the world and shape our lives.
Julie McHorney's insight:
This is a really cool article that takes a look at the the benefits and harms of deep sea mining. One of the main necessities for minerals and metals at the moment is sustainable and renewable energy sources. It explains that terrestrial mining for metals and minerals is causing a lot of damage to the environment so, many are looking to the deep sea. But the combination of the harmful mining practices and unknown ecosystem make the deep sea a difficult and unfit place to mine.
Such an interesting read! Made me think about a lot!
